Keeping children occupied in the car: a relaxed way to travel

Children quickly get bored on car trips. If they ask every few minutes how much longer the journey will take, the driver can quickly become irritated and as a result the risk of an accident can increase. Even if you only have a short trip ahead of you, up to half an hour, you should think in advance about how you can keep the children occupied in the car.

Music and radio plays

The easiest way to keep kids occupied in the car is to offer them audio games. Download a variety of songs to an mp3 player or cell phone, and make sure there’s something new in the mix. your child will also be thrilled to be able to listen to his or her favorite music through headphones. Check that the volume is not too loud
is set high.

Books and puzzle books can keep your kids busy in the car

Books should always be at hand for when you are on the road. Perhaps you will keep one or two books in the car so that they are always available to you. Even with the smallest children you can look at a picture book on the road. It is best to sit in the back of the car. Older children will take their favorite book with them if they know they are going on a long car trip.

To be on the safe side, you may remind the children again before they start their journey. puzzle books, which are available for different age groups, are also very popular.

Magic board and game board for the little ones

Since it is difficult to draw in the car, a magic board would be a good choice for the little ones. It doesn’t matter if you slip, because you can always start over again. Again, it is better to have an adult or older sibling in the back of the car with you so that you can react quickly if something falls or the child becomes discontented.

Playing boards on which the toddler is offered various play options, such as turning cogs, rustling or pressing buttons, are also well suited to keep children occupied in the car.

Counting games and memory games

think of something to draw the children’s attention outside the car. Set a specific time period – perhaps 10 minutes – and have the children guess how many cars of one color they will pass in that time period. Then it is counted. Or all try to find car numbers with especially funny license plates.

Another option is the well-known game: I see something you don’t see and it’s (green, blue, yellow…). The child must then find out what is meant.

Another tried and tested way to keep children occupied in the car is the game: I’m packing my suitcase… Each person must add a new item after having listed in correct order what the others have already put in it.

Small board games and card games to keep kids busy in the car

If several children want to be kept busy, small board games are also suitable, on which the figures can be placed or which adhere by means of magnets. Card games are also an alternative.

Electronic games and DVD players

If you as an adult need some peace and quiet yourself, let your children play with an electronic toy, such as a portable game console or a cell phone, or put a DVD into a portable DVD player or a laptop.
