A huge difference

Siegfried Kettling tells of a visitor who has returned from India. He reports on the Hindu god Shiva. Occasionally he is portrayed as strange: like a hamster, with full cheeks and a mighty goiter. Indians tell a legend that can also make Christians think.

The question of "Why?" of Le >

Again and again we are asked by atheists or opponents of God why God allows so many sufferings. This question cannot be answered in one sentence, if only because not all answers – of which there are many – apply to all situations. That is why a general answer cannot be given in a blog. On the other hand, approaches for reflection are to be shown today and tomorrow.

On August 19, 2012, Dr. Heinrich Christian Rust in the Braunschweig Friedenskirche on the text from 2 Corinthians 4: 5-12. In its He told the sermon of Professor Helmut Thielecke, who was asked by a student:

"Can you, Professor, tell us how, in the face of Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Buchenau, you can still believe in an almighty God and sing" Hallelujah "today?" There was a great silence in the Audimax. Professor Thielicke cleared his throat and then said firmly: “This is an important and pressing question. I have no answer that satisfies mine and your intellect. But I know a question that concerns me even more haunts. "Can you tell me how it happened that there were still people in the concentration camps, in Auschwitz, in Bergen-Belsen and in Buchenau who still sang" Hallelujah "even in the gas chambers?"

While this is not an answer to the "why?" Question, it weakens the attack of the deniers of God. History shows that even the suffering and the doomed do not ask this question, but in the midst of suffering praise the one who question others without suffering.

As Christians, we do not have all the answers to all questions. Sometimes we have answers, but we don’t have them ready. Sometimes we just don’t know the existing answers.

Such examples, however, encourage us not to react frustrated or to tune into the doubts of the deniers of God. Instead of turning away from God through man-made and indebted suffering, we can find courage and hope through siblings who, even in agony, went to their God and our God with joy and strong faith.

Thoughts on this topic can also be found in the sermon from Acts 12: 1-17. You can click on them in the side window.

Warm invitation to worship!

Today again with a Sunday quote at the end

1 At that time King Herod laid hands on some of the congregation to abuse them.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3 And when he saw that the Jews liked it, he went on and captured Peter too. But it was the days of unleavened bread.
4 And when he had arrested him, he threw him into prison and handed him over to four divisions of four soldiers each, with the intention of showing him to the people after the Passover.

5 So Peter was now guarded in prison; but the congregation continually prayed to God for him.
6 When Herod was about to show him off, Peter slept that night between two soldiers, tied with two chains; and guards outside the door guard the prison.
7 And behold, an angel of the Lord came and a light shone in the room. But he woke Peter with a blow to the side and said: Get up quickly! And the chains fell from his hands.
8 And the angel said to him, Gird yourself and pull yours Shoes on! And he did it. And [that one] said to him, "Put your coat on and follow me."!
9 And he went out and followed him, not knowing that what was happening through the angel was real, but thought he saw a face.
10 But when they had passed through the first and second guards, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, and this opened automatically. And they came out and went down an alley, and suddenly left him the angel.
11 Then Peter came to himself and said, Now I truly know that the Lord sent his angel and saved me from Herod’s hand and from everything that the Jewish people hoped for!
12 And he contemplated himself and went to the house of Mary, the mother of John by the name of Mark, where many were gathered and prayed.
13 When Peter knocked on the front door, a handmaid named Rhode came to listen.
14 And when she recognized Peter’s voice, she did not open the door for joy, but ran in and reported that Peter was standing at the door.
15 And they said to her, You are out of your senses! But she insisted that it was so. Then they said: It is his angel!
16 Peter continued to knock; and when they opened they saw him and were very astonished.
17 But he gave them a sign to keep silent and told them how the Lord had led him out of prison. But he said: Report this to James and the brothers! And he went out and moved to another place.
18 When day had come, there was no small dismay among the soldiers, which must have become of Peter.
19 When Herod asked for him and did not find him, he questioned the guards and had them taken away. And he went down from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there.
The judgment of God over Herod Agrippa
20 Herod was angry with the people of Tire and Zidon. Then they came to him unanimously, and after winning Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace because their land was fed by that of the king.
21 But on a certain day Herod put on a royal robe and sat on the judge’s chair and made a speech to her.
22 The crowd cried out to him, “ It is the voice of a God and not a man!
23 But immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give glory to God; and he died, devoured by worms.
