At least since the Spiegel article at the beginning of the year on the alleged healing of children with neurodermatitis, some relevant clinics have been the focus of atopic parents. Sometimes everything is dull. Especially at night. Then the skin itself is hardly real anymore. No organ. No feeling. Skin is then just a sound. A pushing, tearing, pinching, rubbing, rubbing, scratching, painting, itching. Meanwhile I can hear the sound of the small finger on the body, despite the darkness, recognize very well which ‘construction sites’ are currently ‘working’..

She wakes me from my sleep almost every night – the fear of the next surge. Then all of a sudden I am wide awake, staring at the ceiling and thinking: how long can this last, when will the scratching start again? The fear creeps up in me.

Sometimes my scratchy child is really excited. That hits him on the skin. I, on the other hand, get more upset about well-meaning good people advice online. They get on my nerves & under the skin. Even without neurodermatitis..
