Bigger and more beautiful It should be: The St. Raphael Catholic kindergarten in Dinglingen is to be replaced by a new three-group day care center. This provides for a proposal for a resolution that will be discussed in the Lahr town council on Monday.

The fact that there is a need for action at the St. Raphael Catholic Kindergarten in Dinglingen has been known since an on-site visit three years ago. Even back then it was found that the building was in a ramshackle condition: mold was found in some places; it smells musty everywhere; the roof of the extension to the main building is leaking in some places; the lighting in the entire building is poor; some ceiling tiles come off and there is no noise protection between the rooms. In addition, some windows and blinds are in need of renovation; there is neither a staff room nor a kitchen; the basement stairs do not comply with the current safety regulations and the entire outdoor area would have to be renewed.

No room for expansion

And finally: the kindergarten is too small. According to the city administration, 21 kindergarten places are missing in the school district of the Schutterlindenberg School alone, to which the daycare belongs. The daycare center is currently in two groups; but an expansion to three groups would not be possible on the existing property.

Location west of the Martinskirche

According to the city administration, talks have shown that the Catholic parish on the Schutter is ready to build a new daycare center. It is to be built on an area west of the Martinskirche. There the parish bought an area from the city for around 202,000 euros. Previously, it had sold an area in the »Kleinfeld Süd« area to the city that was designated as a common area; A kindergarten would also have been possible there, but since the »Kita-plus« is now being built in the LGS area, this area is no longer required for a kindergarten.

Grants scheduled

The city estimates the cost of the new building at around 2.2 million euros; In addition, there would be costs for demolishing the old building (around 50,000 euros) and preparing the outside area (around 300,000 euros). The city accounted for 70 percent of the construction costs (for the two groups for three to six year olds) and 90 percent (for the toddler group) expected also that the church congregation contributes 30 percent to the demolition costs. The church, as the daycare provider, would also have to apply for an investment grant from the federal government (120,000 euros), which would be fully allocated to urban funding. According to the calculation by the city administration, the church congregation would therefore have a financing share of around 600,000 euros.

This financing concept now has to be approved by the parish council so that the parish can process the land acquisition and start planning the new building.
