Local council makes directional decisions – lauenförde current

Lauenförde. In the municipality of Lauenförde, three important questions have been on the agenda of the municipal council in recent months.

The Council had to discuss and answer these questions at the 11th session of the current legislative period on 25 April, with great public interest from the residents.

In a 2.5-hour session, there was extensive debate and, after a partly controversial debate – with the participation of the citizens present – a decision was made:

1. The new calculations of the hydrographic flood scenarios show that large parts of the local area are at risk of flooding and must not be built on. The decision was made that the community should take action and actively look for possible compensation areas. Hopefully results will be available next year.

2. When it came to the topic of a possible unitary community, the question was whether it could be advantageous for Lauenförde to merge with the other places in the Boffzen community to form a unitary community. The current mayor König (SPD) brought the positive aspects of a unitary community on the agenda, which, however, also relocated very extensive powers of local self-government from the member municipalities to a unitary community. The possible advantages are highly controversial, which is why in Lauenförde The End last year Konrad Renner and Manuel Siegert requested a public decision on this

The logical date for such a ballot by the citizens of Lauenförde would actually have been the date of the district and European elections. However, this could not be legally organized by the administration, which is why June 30 was set as the election date.

Against the background of the two-thirds majority in Lauenförde, which rejected a citizens’ decision on the unitary community, one must see an application by the SPD parliamentary group leader Buxton that the municipal council should make the decision to make the ballot unnecessary and thus by the administration for it save with estimated ten thousand euros. The motion was accepted with 9 yes, 2 no and 2 abstentions, with which the question a unit community for Lauenförde was answered negatively for the second time after 2009.

3. The question of how to deal with the community-owned kindergarten was also the fifth item on the agenda. Triggered by the problem of increased demand and the establishment of a fourth group, the question arose how to deal with the kindergarten built 40 years ago and expanded 25 years ago. The first assessments of the substance of the kindergarten by architects already gave a rather positive assessment of what was available. However, the options of expanding and building a new building were also considered. A total of three architects inspected the kindergarten and reported to the municipal council in public meetings.

From this expertise, the council members were able to gradually develop a picture of the situation judgment form. Important criteria and weightings are summarized in the fact check opposite. The hard-worked positions have now been presented and discussed. The intense debate made it clear how much the perspective of Council members had developed and changed in the course of this process. However, some council members had already decided on a position before the assessment process began, which led to a partly passionate and sometimes even more extensive discussion. How different the positions are can also be seen from the statements of the numerous parents of kindergarten children present.

When voting by name, it was decided that – instead of a completely new building – the Lauenförde kindergarten in massive construction should be expanded by a group and the existing building should be renovated due to the good existing substance. The majority of the council was of the opinion that, especially against the background of the current financial situation of the municipality with already high debt levels, every conceivable possibility of cost reduction had to be used and that with the renovation a sustainable and smart solution had been found, which approx. € 600,000 cheaper than a new building.

With every variant under discussion, one should not forget that the financial situation has forced the municipality to increase taxes several times in recent years. It must also be assumed realistically that the current debts of the municipality and the additional loans to be taken up for this measure will probably still employ the current kindergarten children.

In this respect, there would be a very special obligation to keep an eye on intergenerational justice and, in particular, not to burden young families in particular with any necessary tax increases.
