Mobile phone contract and Allnet Flat for children and teenagers

Mobile phone contract and Allnet Flat for children and teenagers – Cell phones, cell phones and therefore cell phone tariffs are now also important for children and young people, because more and more communication takes place via cell phones. The handling of the cell phones and the awareness that conversations, SMS and internet cause costs have to be learned and therefore certain tariffs are more suitable for different ages.

The use of the mobile phone changes from year to year. A few years ago it was SMS that was widely used as a form of communication, but now it is more the instant messaging services like WhatsApp that are in vogue. That is why tariffs that make the Internet cheap on cell phones are now needed. For smaller children in particular, it can make sense to use tariffs that do not need the Internet at all, so that the children are not yet overwhelmed with the mobile Internet.

When should you start using an Allnet Flat??

Allnet flat rates are usually not worthwhile for smaller children. There are two main reasons for this:

  • rather low usage with just a few minutes and SMS, so a complete flat is hardly worth the price, since the performance is not used anyway
  • no feeling for costs and fees. If everything is free from the start, it is more difficult for children to develop a feeling for the price and value of mobile phone services. An important goal is therefore questioned.

For children, prepaid cards with no monthly fee and better cost control are the best choice. There is an overview of this on this page. The need for communication then increases during puberty and as a rule the tariff should grow with it. Then it’s time to think about whether another tariff or an Allnet Flat is the better way.

Mostly flat rate with an internet flat rate and 500MB to 1GB volume is sufficient. Free SMS that are included can be useful if they are used and needed. It is therefore important to talk to your own children before choosing what their communication habits are and what is needed. Then you can then choose the right cell phone tariff. Special tariffs for children

Some providers have special tariffs for children on offer that are designed to meet the needs of children. However, the tests have shown that such tariffs are generally more expensive than normal cards and many functions are also covered by a normal prepaid card. As a rule, you should only resort to other variants and only use special children’s tariffs if there are problems with normal tariffs.

The selection of suitable mobile phone tariffs on a prepaid basis is now large. But you should make sure that you use tariffs with real prepaid, which are also billed immediately. Only then is the important cost control given and this form of prepaid tariffs cannot slip into the red. Instead, the connection is broken when there is no credit left. The MagentaMobil Start prepaid card from Telekom is particularly interesting. This has, for example, an Internet lock that cannot be deactivated from the cell phone – so parents have very good control over the use.

An overview of the current prepaid tariffs and their conditions can be found here:

The same experiences also apply to so-called children’s cell phones that are equipped with special functions for children. The devices are actually rarely worthwhile and are usually more expensive than comparable offers found on the normal market. Even small children can use simple cell phones with buttons or a simple display without problems and they are not overwhelmed. Also in the field of cell phone radiation there are now few reasons to use pure children’s devices. In the case of adolescents, children’s cell phones are more of a reason to be laughed at – you should definitely use normal devices here.

Block expensive numbers

The following applies to all tariffs: deactivate cost traps if possible. Therefore, you should deactivate the special numbers for every new mobile phone contract for children and adolescents and set up a third-party lock. The third-party lock is particularly important, since then you can no longer subscribe to the devices. Operators of such services are targeting children and adolescents who are not yet legally independent and who do not read through their contractual obligations completely. Then subscriptions with high weekly costs are quickly a problem. The third-party lock prohibits the mobile operator from charging for such services via the mobile phone, so this is an important protection against possible subscription traps. The lock can also be useful for adults.

If special numbers are blocked, certain premium services can no longer be used. So you can no longer take part in many competitions where SMS up to 50 cents or more costs or expensive hotlines have to be called. With such a lock, however, the popular telephone votes (for casting shows, etc.) are no longer feasible, which can lead to problems. You should therefore discuss and explain this step with the children beforehand.

Check content as well

All in all, as a parent, you should make sure that the children learn to use mobile phones, tariffs and the mobile Internet responsibly from the start. Mobile communications are simply part of the world today and you shouldn’t leave the children alone in this area.

In addition to the technology and billing (and the tiresome topic of costs), you should also talk to the children about the content. Mobile communication and especially the mobile Internet confront young people and children very quickly with topics that they are not yet familiar with and for which they are not prepared. Especially with smaller children, you should definitely check the communication and content and also set limits for certain things that should not be looked at.

It often makes sense to determine fixed rules for handling the technology from the start (such as times of use or times when no use is possible) and strictly adhere to them. Of course, this not only applies to the children, but also to the parents themselves. Past life is often better here than just showing.
