Prague New Year’s Eve Fireworks

New Year’s Eve in Prague – the turn of the year here is something very special for many people. On the last day of the year we celebrate and toast together. The actual highlight in Prague has always been New Year: At 6 p.m. on January 1st, visitors and residents of Prague could marvel at the official family fireworks of the city. But now the traditional New Year fireworks were cancelled! At the beginning of August 2019 the City Council of Prague decided to cancel the fireworks on New Year’s Day due to noise pollution, animal protection and high costs. The private firecrackers at midnight had also already been fought: it was forbidden in recent years to ignite firecrackers in the streets of Prague. So anyone who cares about the environment and the well-being of everyone involved is in the right place in Prague. On New Year’s Eve, they can spend a great evening and instead of having fireworks, have their corks cracked with champagne and at spectacular parties.

New Year’s Eve parties Prague

Even though New Year’s Eve in Prague 2019 is completely free of fireworks and fireworks for the first time, legendary New Year’s Eve parties take place all over the city. As in most cities, it is a good idea to look in advance for the best New Year’s Eve offers in Prague. Starting in October, many restaurants and bars, but also boat companies and hotels offer special offers from which you can choose the best parties. A few recommendations for New Year’s Eve parties in Prague you can now get from me.

By boat across the Vltava River

On New Year’s Eve many organizers offer boat tours across the Vltava. You can enjoy a delicious buffet and live music, then sail across the river and enjoy the view of the magnificent panorama of the city at night. If you fancy a boat trip, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for in Prague. Prague Boats, for example, offers a New Year’s Eve boat trip with a pianist and a 3-course dinner on 31 December. The trip takes 4.5 hours and starts at 390€ and includes the Á la carte New Year’s Eve menu, drinks and a breathtaking view of the sights in Prague. Gold tickets are already sold out, so be quick!

Dinner with a view

What could be better on New Year’s Eve in Prague than a great and tasty menu with a view? I advise you to reserve a table in advance if you would like to visit a certain restaurant – especially popular restaurants are often booked out long in advance. If you’re spontaneous, you’re sure to find a place, because the selection is large and varied. With the rather unknown restaurants you might be lucky and come across an undiscovered secret tip. I can particularly recommend two chic restaurants to you:

  • Hergetova Cihelna is situated on the Vltava. The modernly furnished restaurant offers you a perfect view of many of the city’s sights. The food offer is excellent, the view unique and the prices rather high.
  • The chic SaSaZu awaits you with stylish, hypermodern Asian cuisine where the eye can always eat with you – every dish is a work of art. After a delicious dinner, you go to the SaSaZu Club.
  • More worthwhile restaurants in Prague I have put together for you in a separate article.

With “New Year’s Eve with Mozart”, a particularly exclusive dinner event will also take place in Prague at the Ständetheater. With opera music and a delicious New Year’s Eve dinner, guests can enjoy a wonderful gala evening from 8 p.m. onwards. With excerpts from “The Magic Flute” and “Figaro”, classical music fans in particular will get their money’s worth. At midnight the toast will be toasted and afterwards the party will take place on the dance floors. Tickets are available from approx. 300€.

Through the streets of the old town

The Ring der Altstadt and Wenzelsplatz are a cheerful and humid place. Many people from Prague meet there to drink to the New Year and celebrate together. The bars and restaurants around the square are of course more expensive than those in the side streets, but you’re in the heart of the action! If you like it a bit more rustic, the New Years Eve Pub Crawl is the place for you. In the early evening you’ll be off: Together with other guests, you’ll be wandering through the city’s pubs. In the first location you’ll find wine, beer, long drinks and champagne as much as you can drink in an hour and a free welcome shot in every single bar. The pub tour is accompanied by passionate guides who can tell you the best stories from Prague’s nightlife. The final stop is Karlovy Lazne, one of Prague’s most famous clubs. Tickets for Pub Crawl start at €100, drinks, admission tickets and a bottle of champagne are included.

Sightseeing Tips For New Year’s Eve

If you slept late on New Year’s Day, you shouldn’t miss a sightseeing trip through the city. Stroll across Charles Bridge past St Nicholas Church, up to Prague Castle. The castle and St Vitus Cathedral are always worth a visit. From here you have an overwhelming view over Prague and can admire both the National Gallery and the Golden Lane within the castle grounds. If you feel like a comfortable ride through the city, you should definitely take the Nostalgic Tram 23. This will take you comfortably to the many sights in the city centre.

After a sightseeing tour I recommend to make a side trip to the restaurant Lehká Hlava. There are good vegetarian dishes, but also meat lovers go home full and happy. For a good atmosphere you will find tasty drinks, food and a rustic atmosphere in U Kroka at the Prague stronghold.
