for the endodontists of the association. The jury consists of respected and experienced university teachers of endodontology. The jury awards a prize for the best case presentation in the two categories

To the cooperation of Dr. med. Eggert in the DGZMK Guidelines Commission "odontogenic infections"

The DGZMK is the parent company of all dental and orthodontic medical societies. I volunteer in the DGZMK guideline work for the dental profession. The guidelines are a guideline for all German dentists. The fact that I have been entrusted with such a task I regard as a positive confirmation of my many years of work and as a very good opportunity to be able to stand with expert expertise, knowledge and experience from my practice of the Guidelines Commission.

Currently, the following topics were in the foreground:

Every year in Germany there are at least 20 million infections that emanate from teeth – so-called “odontogenic infections” (Source: KZBV Yearbook).

7 million root treatments, the majority in unsatisfactory quality
approx. 1 million root tip resections
Several hundred thousand abscesses
12 million teeth distances
1 million periodontal treatments in over 10 million untreated periodontal disease cases (Source: Fifth German Oral Health Study 2016)

The treatments strain the patients mentally, temporally and financially. They affect the individual, many companies and the entire national economy – and far more than necessary,

Prevention and early diagnosis are often omitted,
because many diagnoses and treatments are suboptimal or completely absent,
because too often antibiotics are prescribed without indication and antibiotic resistances of the pathogens increase.

This results in highly acute emergency treatment, hospital admissions and intensive care treatments for life-threatening complications.

The DGZMK has just published the scientific guideline "odontogenic infections" revised with the collaboration of all dental associations. For the VDZE, I represented endodontic aspects of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infections, because professional root canal treatments eliminate infections and prevent secondary damage.

We often hear from patients that despite antibiotics, teeth continued to hurt for a long time or to hurt again after weaning. Not infrequently, unwanted side effects of the antibiotic were added. The immediate abandonment of the antibiotic and a comprehensive endodontic concept can then regularly achieve rapid and sustained pain relief and permanent tooth preservation, if the tooth turns out to be worthy of further examination.

Like in the old days

And this is where it gets very personal: Martin Eggert, once a very young patient, stared spellbound at the purring drive rope of the drill string of this treatment chair and hoped for a successful end to his treatment … and for praise from mother Ingeborg or father Fritz for his good cooperation , As early as 1946, practice founder and grandfather Ewald Wittmer installed the dental chair, which was in service until 1986.

In loving detail, the technology was completely disassembled, restored, repainted and completely rebuilt. Diligence, inventiveness, tact and many hours were necessary. and voila: a fully functional piece of jewelry has been created.

If you want to recapture the old times, then just take a seat – and experience for yourself the comfort of the leather upholstery in 1946. Please contact our reception, we will gladly give you an insight into our times of founding and the technology that already existed in the Lenzmannstraße was “high-end”.

But do not worry: in this chair we do not treat you any more … after all, not only the technical knowledge is more advanced, but also the technology.

Current training

The master’s program does not mean the end, but the start of an extensive development. Every year, I attend many seminars, courses, working group meetings and numerous endodontic conferences at home and abroad

Continuous literature studies and the exchange of knowledge and experience in the study groups (http://www.dget.de/de/dget/ruhrgebiet/ruhrgebiet.htm) thus enable the continuous development of my specialist knowledge.

On the board of the Association of German Certified Endodontists (VDZE, www.vdze.de) there is an intensive exchange with colleagues from the board as well as with German and international speakers, whom we invite to our conferences in order to be able to act even better in terms of the dental health of our patients.

A special anniversary: 25 years of prophylaxis with Ms Galla

Prophylaxis is the foundation of every successful dental activity. Many hundreds of patients know and appreciate our practice. Many of you celebrate this anniversary together with Mrs. Galla, because they are and were already their patients in 1992. Ms. Galla has been familiar with the dental findings, the strengths and weaknesses in her teeth for decades, and she recognizes the smallest changes from the image documents and her graphic memory at a glance. In this way, it helps to identify early stages and to treat them in the most gentle and least stressful way with more intensive prevention or, if necessary, with minimally invasive methods.

Just as well, after decades of trusting relationship, Ms. Galla knows the personalities and characters of her loyal patients and is friendly to them. Ms. Galla sees it as her personal success when her guardians not only keep their teeth, but keep their teeth caries-free and with healthy gums year after year into old age.

New prophylaxis patients introduce them into a gentle and efficient oral hygiene and a tooth-conscious, healthy and at the same time diverse and enjoyable nutrition. This is proven to be decades of success. By being able to enjoy the functioning work of our practice for a very long time as a whole practice team, we have the capacity for new tasks and new treatment methods, e.g. in endodontology.

In short: Ms Galla is a mainstay of our practice and prophylaxis is indispensable.
