Montessori education makes learning easier for children
"Help me to do it myself" – that is the guiding principle of Montessori education, according to which we have been working in the children’s village in Guatemala for 13 years. We have found that Montessori is very suitable for our children, who come to us with different traumas and different levels of education.
Montessori has proven itself
In the children’s village in Guatemala we use the Montessori method in kindergarten and the first two classes of primary school. Our goal is to teach up to fourth grade after Montessori. Experience has shown that children benefit enormously from this type of learning.
With pictures, children learn terms more easily and memorize them better.
The Montessori complex has one room for English classes, one for the indigenous language Kaqchikel, two rooms for religious classes and one for remedial classes. The rooms are designed according to Montessori education and equipped with the most important Montessori materials. Here children from the children’s village and external children learn together. They are divided into three groups: the youngest from two to three years, the four to six year olds and those from the first grade primary school.
The daily routine of the Montessori children
Instead of boring frontal lessons active and learned in a circle.
The day begins at 7:00 a.m. for primary school children and at 8:00 a.m. for kindergarten children. After washing their hands, everyone sits in a circle and talks about their experiences from the previous day or what else is important to them. Then each child chooses a topic to work on.
The topics range from colors and animals for the youngest to countries and numbers for the older. There is a breakfast break from 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and then the children change the topics. It is at 12:30 p.m. Day for the kindergarten children run out, the school children stay until 1:00 p.m..
The Montessori kindergarten is set up according to the needs of the children.
The special thing about Montessori
Maria Montessori’s idea is to give children the opportunity to discover and develop their skills. This method is particularly successful with traumatized children. The children learn by seeing, feeling and recognizing. That is why the special Montessori material that is used for the individual subjects and subjects is used so important. For example, there are sandpaper digits for learning the numbers. By feeling the number and tracing the lines with their fingers, the children memorize the numbers particularly well.
We need support so that the children have an optimal learning environment with the necessary materials in the future.
