The exhibition shows the three focal points of urban development that manifest the ecological, digital and mobile realignment of Heilbronn: the Neckarbogen city quarter on the grounds of the Federal Garden Show 2019, the educational campus of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation and the knowledge and experience world "experimenta".

A discovery in 6 chapters:

1. City and river

2. BUGA – Changes

6. Well-being | future fund

The first part of the exhibition explains this new city quarter, which is now the heart of BUGA 2019. The “Stadtquartier Neckarbogen” was also integrated into BUGA 2019 as part of a “city exhibition” – together with the first 800 residents. In this way, garden show guests can experience how high-quality architecture and urban planning in combination with landscape architecture and innovative technology can shape a residential area in a large city of the 21st century if all those involved work together constructively. By relocating a main traffic road away from the water course of the Neckar at the former harbor basin, Heilbronn was able to regain the scenic charm of the place. Particular emphasis was also placed on a sustainable and resource-saving construction. The power supply for the residential buildings is guaranteed by combined energy generation systems from a combined heat and power plant, solar thermal and photovoltaic with intermediate storage. The lakes of the park facilities serve the water management for the urban quarter and are used for the irrigation of trees and beds.

In the subsequent further development, around 3,500 people from Heilbronn will live in the green residential area on Neckar uss. For the first time in almost 70 years of history, a federal garden show is a landscape and construction exhibition at the same time. Garden art and urban architecture in high quality: the Federal Garden Show Heilbronn will be the host for 173 days. Under the motto "Blooming Life", from April 17 to October 6, 2019, she invites you to a diverse garden exhibition and stimulating city exhibition.

The second part of the exhibition presents the rapidly growing educational campus of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, which houses various state and private universities and educational institutions on its premises. Since the first phase of construction on a former industrial site was inaugurated in 2011, the educational campus has been gradually expanded by the Auer Weber architectural firm from Stuttgart to provide the various institutions with modern, needs-based spaces and to create the best possible quality of learning and work. By the end of 2019, lecture hall and administration buildings, an underground cafeteria and a common library for all universities will be created on the five-hectare site near the BUGA site, offering all individually designed spatial experiences. Future developments for student living, sports and other research facilities are being considered in order to continue investing in the future of the lively and diverse place of learning and living.

The third part of the exhibition presents the largest science center in Germany – the "experimenta". The conversion and expansion of the Hagenbucher warehouse on the Neckarinsel from 1936 with its stringent masonry architecture was carried out on the basis of an architectural competition won in 2007 by the Berlin-based architectural studio studioinges. The new building is currently being realized by Sauerbruch Hutton Architects from Berlin. The striking architecture of the building is characterized by a dynamic structure made of glass and steel. Four exhibition worlds with over 270 interactive exhibits, four glass creative rooms and three special exhibition areas form the spatial program for a comprehensive and interdisciplinary range of experiments and hands-on activities. A highlight and unique selling point the new "Experimenta" is the Science Dome with the unique combination of theater and planetarium, an audience room that can be rotated by 180 ° and a 700 square meter 360 ° dome screen for 3D, laser or experimental shows. Together with the extensive range in the existing building and its nine high-quality laboratories, a unique world of knowledge and experience is being created here on a total area of 25,000 square meters and is expected to open in spring 2019.
