Our caravan trips: vacation in sweden

May 22
On May 22, 2011 we started our vacation to Sweden. Of course I had my camera with me in my luggage, but I left the charger at home: – ((
My wife, however, had all of her photographic equipment with me (please) and I was allowed to use her pictures for this report. (Thanks sweetheart).
On May 21st we were still at my step-son’s wedding party and so the next morning at 9:15 a.m. we drove north not particularly rested. We passed Cologne and at 4pm we reached the CP Seepark near Kassel after 550km. We were able to park in front of the entrance and didn’t need to uncouple the caravan. We went to bed totally tired at 7 p.m..

At sea we encountered the other ferry coming from Denmark.

After only 45 minutes driving time we reached Danish soil. There we headed for the town of Maribo, where we moved into a parking space for the night at the CP of the same name.

The toll for our team was 80 euros (98 sFr)
So now we were in Sweden for the first time. Great, but that was just the beginning of our enthusiasm for this beautiful country!
Our first destination in Sweden was Löckna on Bolmensee. Since we did not yet have a road map of Sweden, we stopped at a rest area and bought one. We quickly realized that practically nobody speaks German but everyone actually speaks English, and with my English vocabulary of maybe 50 words :-) we got along.
At noon we stopped for lunch at another rest area and the weather was always a little better.

After a small snack, the navigation system continued and we left the highway and drove on the country road towards Bolmensee. I was amazed at the good condition of the streets of Sweden. In general, driving in this country is almost relaxation: no speeders, no jostles and spinners. We could still learn a lot from us in the south.
The last km to the camp site was a good road to drive on. So we reached the Löckna campsite around 2:30 p.m. It was dry but cold and very windy.

25th and 26th. May
We are thrilled with the place. In the middle of beautiful nature, forests without end, blue lakes big and small. Already on the second day we roamed the woods for hours and since we wanted to meet animals we were very quiet and spoke almost no word. No problem for me but for my Dany ;-)) ?? But we were rewarded: In the distance I spotted an elk making out of the dust. Unfortunately we only saw him briefly and there was not enough time to take a picture. But the deer that we surprised a short time later was very close.

For the time being we didn’t meet an elk anymore, but the legacies were everywhere

May 27th
we continued our journey and made our way to Vimmerby (birthplace of Astrid Lindgren) but that was not the reason that we went there, no we wanted to visit the National Park Norra Kvills. In the pouring rain we set up on the CP Nossenbaden. The place is nice and close to the city but the Sanis are quite dirty.

We did some shopping in the city, got some cash at the ATM and Dany then cooked the noodle, and added sugar instead of salt to the pasta water :-) we laughed ourselves apart when we noticed it, but with a lot of spice we were able to satisfy our hunger.

28th of May
In the morning the weather was not exhilarating, cool but dry at least. With good clothing and provisions we went to the Norra Kvills National Park.

We didn’t meet a single person on the entire hike. Pure nature. We didn’t see any moose either, even though we had been walking so long and quietly. A little bit of disappointment came up but it was still beautiful.
When we got back by car, we decided to walk a little outside the park (although none "border" to the park) we wanted to turn after about 1km when I said to Dany let’s go a little further and there, suddenly he was standing in front of us: an impressive moose! Less than 30 meters in front of us. He filled his stomach with leaves. I filmed with the video camera and Dany took pictures. Unfortunately, the big animal was repeatedly covered by the thick leaves, but we weren’t in the zoo. The moose did not see us for a long time, but when he saw us or sensed us, he quickly left. This experience was the culmination of our long hike.
(Click picture to enlarge, then you can recognize the moose better)

Luckily, we never met an elk on the street, just the numerous warning signs.

You (Dany ;-)) took wonderful photos there. Testify of a nice vacation that you enjoyed. We haven’t been to Sweden in a while. But these photos make you hungry. And we have never seen an elk hiking in nature (only once from the mobile) and it was so fast that I could only take a picture of its rear.
