On Sunday, May 8th, the Weidenpesch racecourse announces the big charity race day in favor of the Cologne Child Protection Association for the 81st Gerling Prize, Gr. 2, not only a sporting highlight, but also a social highlight.

The traditional Cologne race, endowed with 70,000 euros over 2,400 meters, is also the start of the newly founded GERMAN RACING Champions League series, in which the best German gallopers will compete. Three of the eleven top-class races take place in Cologne. In addition to the 81st Gerling Prize on Sunday, these are also the 181st Oppenheim Union Race on June 19 and the 54th Europe Prize on September 25.

Helping children is the motto of this 15th benefit race day of the Cologne Child Protection Association. The popular celebrity race on Icelandic horses is seen every year as a special spectacle for a good cause. Here, among other things TV presenter Mara Bergmann try to defend her previous year’s success. Other brave challengers are Didi Jünemann (caberettist), Kai Noll (actor), Ozan Akhan (caberettist), Ira Meindl (model) and Alexander Sholti (actor).

* Henriette Reker takes over the patronage *

Mayor Henriette Reker acts as patron for the first time. Together with Angela Roters, chairwoman of the Cologne Children’s Protection Association, the Mayor hopes for your support through donations and proceeds from a raffle to support children in Cologne who need special help.

* FC pros also come *

Also on this family race day for the good cause are five professionals from 1. FC Köln with Timo Horn, Marcel Risse, Dominic Maroh, Dusan Svento and Thomas Kessler.

For our loyal racetrack visitors and fans of 1. FC Köln, the Cologne racing club, together with the 1. FC Köln foundation, enables all fans to make up for the autograph session with professionals from 1. FC Köln that was canceled on Easter Monday due to external circumstances. "We want to give all visitors who had to do without the announced autograph session with the FC professionals on Easter Monday the opportunity to experience the FC professionals up close at the racetrack," explains President Eckhard Sauren about this unique campaign.

The focus of the day is, of course, on the children and their families, who are offered a colorful and attractive all-round program: with the climbing tower of the Lövenich youth fire brigade, the make-up workshop, a giant slide, free pony rides, bouncy castle and crawling labyrinth, numerous attractions make children’s hearts beat faster.

The next Cologne Turft appointment will take place on Whit Monday, May 16, with the first classic of the Cologne gallop season, the Mehl-Mülhens race, German 2000 Guineas, endowed with 153,000 euros.
