Supplementary information on periodontal disease
Periodontal diseases cause more teeth to be lost than caries.
Periodontology is the study of the periodontium (periodontium). She is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases (periodontal diseases). Under periodontal disease all inflammatory pathological (pathological) changes of the periodontium are summarized.
The most common periodontal disease is periodontal disease. It has become very important in recent decades. For this is no longer just about dental health – on the contrary, periodontitis is known as a risk factor in the following serious diseases:
- Atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis, arteriosclerosis) with coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke (stroke)
- significantly increased risk of prematurity and underweight neonates
- Diabetes mellitus (diabetes)
For the diagnosis of periodontal diseases, the clinical findings are supported for example by:
- the demonstration of bacterial plaque
- the DNS probe test
- the interleukin-1 gene test
- the tooth mobility analysis
At the beginning of therapy, the patient is usually informed about causes, personal responsibility and therapeutic options; But the decisive factor is the professional cleaning of teeth (PZR) z. B. with powder jet and the Zahnsteinentfernung that allow the patient first, painlessly implement newly trained hygiene measures.
Once the patient has learned the new hygiene techniques, the next part of therapy can start, in which different methods can complement each other. Their goal is the subgingival calculus removal (removal of calculus under the gum line), the healing of inflammatory tissue and the regeneration of the periodontal ligament:
- the vector method
- periodontal surgery
- Regenerative therapies such as controlled tissue and bone regeneration
- Bone defect fillings
Adjuvant (adjuvant) may in some cases be photo-activated chemotherapy (PACT) or drug therapy, e.g. B. be useful with an antibacterial chip or a Tetracyclinfaden.
