Prepaid for children and adolescents – that should be noted, prepaid tariffs in comparison

Prepaid for children and teenagers – that should be noted – Cell phones and smartphones are now firmly anchored in our everyday life and mostly children and adolescents still use the devices clear more intense – and different – than that adults. The tasks of the parents have grown a bit, because you have to teach the children how to use mobile phones, smartphones and other mobile devices responsibly.

The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs also sees raising children in a media world from cell phones, smartphones and tablets as one of the greatest challenges for parents. Here, however, the focus is more on the question of content. The ministry website says:

The Federal Ministry of Youth sees an important task in strengthening media literacy. It promotes a large number of projects and initiatives that adapt to the technical and content-related developments of the media world and to the changing handling of them. The projects strengthen the media education skills of parents and specialists, support age-appropriate and good media offers for children and adolescents and promote the creative and responsible use of media.

  • good cost control: Only what was previously loaded onto the card can be used, so there is no cost risk even if it is operated incorrectly. In the worst case, the credit on the prepaid card is used up – in most cases, more costs cannot arise.
  • simple tariffs:Prepaid tariffs are usually very simple and generally have no fixed monthly costs. If the cell phone is not used, there are no costs.
  • without internet: With some prepaid offers, the mobile internet can be deactivated and there is no way to catch mobile subscriptions or to go to pages that are not suitable for children.

Therefore prepaid tariffs are very well suited to introduce children to the complex world of telecommunications. But you should still pay attention to a few points, because depending on the age of the child, different tariffs and settings make sense.

Prepaid tariffs and cell phones for children from 8 to 12 years old

Initiatives and scientists recommend that children only use their own cell phones from around 8 to 9 years old. Before that, an emergency cell phone with very limited functions can be useful. From 8 to 9 years of age, the level of development of the children is usually so great that they understand the device and also the background.

At this age (up to about 12 years) simple cell phones make sense and thus also simple tariffs. Prepaid is also the first choice because you can use the top-ups to determine how intensively the device is used. A standing order with 10 euros a month for mobile use is usually completely sufficient. It may make sense to deactivate the mobile Internet (directly via the tariff) to really only allow the use of calls and SMS. A tariff that can do that, is the MagentaMobil prepaid card from Telekom. Here, the Internet can be switched off directly in the customer area and can then no longer be activated in the cell phone. Only parents can then control the Internet on their cell phones. The card and all details can be found directly on the Telekom website.
