Bread is one of the most important components of our food. Bread is made from flour, which in turn is made from different types of grain.

In earlier times it was a great effort for the farmer to harvest his fields. Today the farmer uses a combine harvester. The farmer then sells his grain to the mills, where the grain is weighed and paid for by weight. The flour is packed in factories and sold in shops. Many bakeries get the flour in bags from the mill. In modern bakeries, bread is no longer kneaded by hands. They also have machines that even shape the bread.

The little red hen and the bread story

Once upon a time there was a red hen who lived with her yellow chicks on a large farm. Her neighbors were a fat piglet, a duck and a goose.

One day the red hen found a few grains of wheat on the earth. ?Luck? cried the red hen. The duck, the goose and the fat piglet came running right away. Maybe there was something good to eat! ? Look what I found! Real wheat grains !? ? Who helps me sow them??

"Not me", said the duck.

"Neither do I", chattered the goose.

"And certainly not me", grunted the fat piglet.

"Well, then I have to do it alone", sighed the hen.

The rain came, the sun shone – and soon the wheat grains germinated. Delicate light green stems grew from the brown earth. The red hen looked after her well. The wheat grew and grew until it was strong, golden and ripe.

"The wheat is ripe, who will help me harvest?" asked the red hen.

"Not me", said the duck.

"Neither do I", chattered the goose.

"And certainly not me", grunted the fat piglet.

"Then I have to do it alone", sighed the red hen. The red hen harvested the wheat alone with a sickle.

"Who helps me thresh the grain?" asked the red hen.

"Not me", said the duck.

"Neither do I", chattered the goose.

"And certainly not me", grunted the fat piglet.

"Then I have to do it alone again", sighed the red hen. With a threshing the red hen knocked the grains out of the stalks.

"Who helps me get the wheat to the mill bring?" asked the red hen.

"Not me", said the duck.

"Neither do I", chattered the goose.

"And certainly not me", grunted the fat piglet.

The hen took the heavy sack on her back and went alone to the mill. The wheat was ground in the mill and the hen came back with a sack full of fine white flour.

"Who can help me bake bread??" asked the red hen.

"I don’t? Said the duck.

"Neither do I", chattered the goose.

"And certainly not me", grunted the fat piglet.

"Then I bake it by myself", said the hen. When the red hen took the light brown and fragrant bread out of the oven, the duck, goose and fat piglet came running at once.

"Aha", said the red hen, "you want to help me eat my bread?"

"Yes, I want that", said the duck.

"Me too", chattered the goose.

"And even more so", grunted the fat piglet.

"You never wanted to help me at work. But you all want to eat it now! It’s out of the question. I will now eat the bread alone". And the little red hen ate the bread with her yellow chicks.

Baker rhymes:

bake bake cake
Bake bake cake
The baker called!
Who wants to bake good cake,
He must have seven things:
Eggs and lard
Butter and salt
Milk and flour
Safran makes the cake yellow!

Advent pastries
Stir, stir in porridge, butter, sugar quickly,
Raisins, eggs and almond kernels,
I like to roll out dough,
Shaped molds prefer to sting!

Hearts, moon and stars
I put on the baking sheet,
put it in the oven,
it is eaten by candlelight.
