Pseudo-croup (croup cough)

What is pseudo-Krupp?

What are the symptoms of pseudo-croup?

When your child’s mucous membranes swell, there are typical coughing fits. The cough sounds like a barking seal. Most often, the first attack occurs at night. The day before, your child may have shown the first signs of a cold. After the coughing fit, it usually falls asleep quickly – it is then weakened.

Other symptoms can include:

  • difficulty in breathing
  • palpitation
  • Fear and sweating
  • Ongoing nose
  • fever
  • Sore throat
  • An unnatural sound when inhaling (stridor)

How to treat croup cough?

When should I call the doctor??

If your child has a coughing spell for the first time, you probably want to call the emergency doctor right away – even if it’s in the middle of the night. The doctor on the phone will then ask you a few questions to determine how serious the cough is. He will recommend that you either try some home remedies or take the child to the emergency room.

If your baby has already had several pseudo-Krupp seizures, but you still want to be on the safe side, call the doctor and tell him about your home remedies (unsuccessful).

You should also call him if your baby has a high fever of more than 39 degrees Celsius, or is suffering from acute shortness of breath – noisy breathing and difficulty breathing – or high saliva. That could be signs of the much more serious bacterial disease epiglottitis. The trigger for this is Haemophilus influenza type B, or Hib for short (the vaccinations that your baby receives from the ninth week at four-week intervals, however, have virtually eradicated this disease.)

If your baby with Home remedies do not calm quickly or have partial breathing problems, then you should go to the emergency room next Bring children’s clinic. Even if they have already called the doctor, anxious parents cannot always wait patiently. In many cases, your baby’s condition will improve significantly on the way to the hospital. If this is not the case, it will probably be given cortisone as a suppository or for inhalation.

How long will it take for the cough to heal??

Krupp cough lasts about two to four days. During this time, do steam treatments as needed. For safety, you should also have cortisone suppositories in the home. Once you get through the horrors of this common cough, it will leave you tired but unscathed.
