For children, escaping is a terrible thing, do not you think? Many have seen their homes destroyed and their parents or relatives killed. As they move around, they are always on anxiety, do not get enough to eat and are often Sick. Many girls and boys do not survive the escape.

Half of the 65.3 million people currently on the run are children. Many are traveling without their family:

  • They were from their families alone to Europe sent to be safe.
  • They have their family in war lost.
  • They have their family on the run lost; In places where many refugees suddenly land by boat or where they are stopped at a border, there is chaos and crowds. Some family members also die while fleeing.

Germany and Sweden have worldwide most “unaccompanied refugee children”, as the term means, recorded. In Germany, there were 14,400 girls and boys in 2015. Most came from Afghanistan and Syria. The youth welfare office usually takes care of them here. One finds relative from them, children can move to them. Otherwise, they live in special accommodations. Sometimes refugee children become too in foster care housed.

Refugee children who are alone need special protection. This is a childrens right. Refugee children, for example, have one right to education. It is important that they go to school, learn the language and make friends. But there are always vacancies in schools and language courses.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child provides refugee children in all countries of the world with special protection:

“The countries make sure that a refugee child protection receives and helps him to exercise his rights. It does not matter if it is accompanied by his / her other parent or if it is alone. “

“The countries are doing everything to protect the child, to help him and to locate the parents / other family members. If they do not succeed, they have to just like any other child, that for some reason lives without his family. “

Art. 22, 1 + 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child of 20.11.1989; Germany has promised on 5.4.1992, to implement this convention (agreement) into action.
