Information on the standard DIN EN 747, the tests by TÜV Süd, the GS mark and more on safety

The safety of our children’s beds is our top priority. Learn more about how we do this below.

The safety standard DIN EN 747

The safety standard DIN EN 747 "Bunk beds and loft beds", published by the German Institute for Standardization e.V., places demands on the Security, strength and durability of bunk beds and loft beds. For example, Dimensions and distances of components and the sizes of openings on the bed are only in certain approved areas. All components must withstand regular, even increased loads. All parts need sanded clean and all edges rounded his. This minimizes the risk of injury.

Our children’s furniture comply with this standard and excel the security requirements specified there by some points, which in our opinion are not “strict” enough, by far. For example, that is high fall protection Betten Our beds are 71 cm high on the short side and 65 cm on the long side (minus mattress thickness). That is the highest standard fall protection, the you at with cots Find. (On request, it can be even higher.) The standard would already be fall protection, which only protrudes 16 cm above the mattress, which in our opinion is insufficient for smaller children.

Watch out! There are cots on the market that look similar to ours at first glance. In the details, however, they do not correspond to the norm and it consists Risk of pinching due to impermissible clearances. Look for the GS mark when buying a loft bed or bunk bed.

Tested security (GS)

Because we care about the safety of your children, we leave the most popular of our bed models Check regularly by TÜV Süd and with that GS seal ("tested security") certify (certificate no.Z1A 105414 0001, download). Its award is by German Product Safety Act (ProdSG) controlled.

Since our modular bed system enables countless different designs, we chose one for the certification Selection of bed models and designs limited. However, all important distances and safety features correspond also with the other models and versions the test standard.

The certification was carried out for the following versions: Pine or beech, untreated or oiled-waxed ⓘ, without swing beam ⓘ, ladder position A ⓘ, with mouse-themed boards all around (for models with high fall protection), mattress width 90 or 100 cm ⓘ, mattress length 200 cm ⓘ.

Tests by TÜV Süd

At the exams everyone Dimensions and distances checked on the bed according to the test part of the standard with the appropriate measuring tools. For example, the gaps on the bed frame are loaded with test wedges with a certain pressure in order to prevent the gaps from increasing to unacceptable dimensions even when subjected to high forces. This ensures that no catching points or danger of pinching for hands, feet, head and other parts of the body.

Further tests check the durability of the components by automatically performing countless repetitions of the load at certain points over several days using robot technology. This simulates a long-term, repeated stress on the wooden parts and connections by humans. Thanks to the, our cots hold these lengthy tests stable construction stood easily.

Proof of certification is also part of the tests Harmlessness of the materials used and surface treatments. We only use natural wood (beech and pine) sustainable forestry, that is not chemically treated.

Highest security and quality are most important to us. We ensure this through our own production in our workshop near Munich. Our goal is not to manufacture the cheapest possible products. Don’t save at the wrong end!

Ladder and grab handles

The ladders of course also comply with the standard for our loft beds and bunk beds. With regard to the ladder, it regulates, for example, the distance between the ladder rungs.

Instead of the default round rungs we also offer flat ladder rungs on request.

All bed models with ladder are 60 cm long for safe entry and exit handholds included as standard.

swing beam

A lot of headroom when playing: The distance between the mattress and swing beam Ⓘ is 98.8 cm minus mattress thickness. The swing beam protrudes 50 cm and can hold up to 35 kg (swinging) or 70 kg (hanging). It can also be moved outside or left out.

wall mounting

For safety reasons, this is for bunk beds and bunk beds Attachment to the wall intended. The skirting board creates a small distance between the bed and the wall. You need spacers of this thickness to screw the bed onto the wall. In order to make it easy for you, we also supply you with the appropriate spacers and fastening material for brick walls.

Installation heights

Our beds grow with your children. That means you can build them in different heights over the years without having to buy additional parts. Depending on the construction height, e.g. under the loft bed Space for a shop, a desk or a great game room.

The construction heights and designations shown here apply to all bed types. In the drawing: loft bed grows with the child, construction height 4.

*) Note on age "according to DIN standard from 6 years"

The EN 747 standard first sees loft beds and bunk beds for children from 6 years ago, from there comes the age "from 6 years". However, the standard does not take the up to 71 cm high fall protection our beds (fall protection would already correspond to the norm, which only protrudes 16 cm above the mattress). Basically, height 5 is with high fall protection for children from 5 years no problem.

Please note that our age information only recommendations are. The right height for your child depends on the actual level of development and the constitution of the child.
