Sights in the altmühltal

Sights in the Altmühltal

An overview of the most beautiful sights in the Altmühltal:

Actually, the Altmühltal is already a sight in itself: A small river that winds its way through a broad valley with rolling wooded slopes covered with juniper meadows, with many tranquil villages and romantic towns, on the rocks at both There are many historic castles and palaces on the sides of the valley, and there are many interesting attractions in between. In Altmühltal you can explore hiking, cycling or the Altmühl by boat.

Overview

This article is arranged so that I describe all sights along the Altmühltales from east to west. From this table of contents you can easily access the parts that interest you.

Attractions

Kelheim

Kelheim is located exactly where the Danube and Altmühl flow together. This is practically at the end of the Altmühltal. From here, the valley is much wider, since it was formed by the waters of two rivers.

The place has a beautiful historic center. There are many pubs that in the evening, when it is dark, warm light shines and cheerful music echoes through the streets. The inns are usually very traditional.

Above the small town perched, visible from everywhere, the liberation hall on which it goes in more detail in the next section.
From Kelheim you can easily explore the area by excursion boat. From here ships sail along the Danube, to the beautiful monastery Weltenburg, through the Danube Mountains. But also on the Altmühl you can drive to Riedenburg, or stop in one of the small towns and look at a castle for example. The ships also go to Regensburg.

There is also a tourist information office in Kelheim, which can give you more information about the sights or help you to book a hotel.

Kelheim is well suited as a starting point for excursions by boat, bike or on foot as you have the choice of either the Altmühl or the Danube to explore. You can stay here well and explore the area in a few days.

Shipping on the Danube / Altmühl

Excursion ship between Kelheim and Weltenburg

The Altmühl as well as the Danube can be wonderfully explored by excursion boat. From the water you have another perspective than from the countryside and perceives the landscape very different. Especially in the Danube Mountains near Weltenburg the view from the ship is recommended, because you can hardly look at this natural beauty from the shore.

The ships sail on the Danube from Kelheim to the Weltenburg monastery. There are also ships that sail from Kehlheim to Regensburg. On the Altmühl, the ships travel to Riedenburg and stop at selected locations on the way.

The Liberation Hall in Kelheim

The Liberation Hall in Kelheim can be seen from afar. It is one of the other major attractions around Kelheim. The hall itself can be visited. From the park of the Liberation Hall you have a great view of the surroundings.

The hall was commissioned by King Ludwig I. It was intended as a memorial to the victorious battles against Napoleon. It was built in two years from 1813 to 1815.

The Liberation Hall can be reached in different ways: Very nice is the footpath from Kelheim. For cars, there is a large parking lot next to the hall, where you have to pay a few euros fee. Another option is the Ludwigsbahn, a small tourist train that leaves on the road from the ship’s dock.

Archeology Park Altmühltal

The Archeology Park Altmühltal is not a closed archeology park, but rather consists of 18 stations that can be found between Kelheim and Dietfurt on a route of 39km. On the route there is a loudspeaker at every station where you can get information about the history of the object. Interesting are for example the Klausenhöhlen. around Kelheim

Monastery Weltenburg

The monastery Weltenburg is one of the biggest attractions around the Altmühltal. Right at the end of the Danube Mountains, this historic monastery is located in a scenically spectacular location. The monastery was founded in 617 and is one of the oldest in Bavaria. The chapel, which can also be visited, is very beautiful.

In the monastery there is the Klosterschenke, a restaurant with classic Bavarian cuisine and a beer garden in the courtyard of the monastery. Here the beer of the monastery brewery Weltenburg is served. This is probably the oldest in the world. It has existed since 1050. Its beer has been awarded many times as the best dark beer in the world.

Directly next to the monastery there is a pier for the ships of the Danube navigation with which you can drive to Kelheim. In summer, there are also small boats that take guests to the other side of the Danube. Behind the monastery, a trail leads past, from where you can walk along the cliffs of the Danube Mountains, to Kelheim. By car, the monastery is easy to reach. Nearby there is a large parking lot (for a fee), from which you walk about 5 minutes along the Danube to the monastery.

Opposite the monastery there are a few limestone cliffs where you can climb well.

In winter, there is a beautiful Christmas market at the monastery.

The Danube Gorge / Weltenburg Enge

Between Weltenburg and Kelheim is the Danube Gorge, another major attraction. The best way to experience the Danube Mountains is by boat. The ships depart either from Kelheim or Weltenburg Abbey.

A very popular way to experience the Danube Mountains is from Kelheim. From there you take the ship through the Danube Mountains to Weltenburg Monastery. Here you can stop in the Klosterschenke, look at the old monastery and then drive back to Kelheim by boat.

The whole area is today a nature reserve. On the banks of the Danube, white limestone rocks rise up to 80 m. There are several hiking trails on both sides of the river. These include the famous Way of St. James, the Jurassic Gorge or the Altmühlpanoramaweg.

In summer there are many bathing enthusiasts, who line the banks of the Danube and enjoy the summer on the shallow beaches on the banks.

Geologically speaking, the name Danube Gorge is actually not entirely correct. The Weltenburger Enge was originally formed by a tributary of the Danube. The Danube was still flowing in the Altmühltal at the time. Geologically speaking, the Wipfelsfurt is very exciting. She probably goes back to a meteorite impact.

Kloster Trauntal, the “Klösterl”

In the Danube Mountains there is a small rock monastery, the Klösterl. It dates back to a hermitage from 1450 and was later rebuilt (1603) as a monastery with a natural rock roof. Since 1880 until today there is still a restaurant here. The Klösterl can be reached on foot from Kelheim.

White Cross – a good view of the Danube Gorge

Most of the hiking trails around the Danube Gorge have no clear view of the breakthrough. It’s different at the white cross. From here you have a wonderful view of the meandering through the rocks Danube. You can reach the white cross via hiking trails. The next parking lot is in a bend on the road between Kelheim and Weltenburg (not far behind the cemetery).

The Limes on the Danube – the castle Abusina at Eining

The northern border of the great Roman Empire reached almost to Altmühltal. In order to protect themselves from the peoples of the north, a fortification has been erected: the Limes. In Eining on the Danube you can discover the remains of a fort (a weir) of the Romans and learn a lot about the Romans. At the various fortifications that were built here, you can see well the different strategies with which the Roman Empire was secured.

The highlight of the year for the fort is a Roman festival that is held every August for a few days.

Abensberg

Abensberg is a small town very close to the Altmühltal. The lords of Abensberg formerly lived on the castles in the Altmühltal. Abensberg is very popular because of the famous Kuchlbauerturm. Next to the tower there is still a beautiful old town. The name of the city comes from the small river that flows through the town: the Abens. Abensberg is particularly busy in autumn, when there is the Gillamoos, a traditional beer festival (like the Oktoberfest) or in winter, when there is the Christmas market.

The Hundertwasser tower in Abensberg

The biggest attraction in Abensberg is the Hundertwasserturm. The tower stands in the brewery Kuchlbauer, hence the name as it is called in Abensberg: the Kuchlbauer Tower. It was designed by the famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The special thing about his designs was that he always avoided straight lines in his houses. The tower can be visited as part of a brewery tour. In addition to the Kuchlbauerturm there is now an art house, which was designed by a pupil of Hundertwasser and has been created in the same style.

Niklasmarkt and Christmas market at Kuchlbauerturm (Hundertwasser tower)

Also in the Advent time worth a visit to Abensberg. Then there are two very nice Christmas markets: the Niklas market at the castle and the Christmas market at Kuchlbauerturm.

Both are very pleasant. Everywhere fires are lit, where one can warm oneself.

Of the Niklas market is very pleasant: The fire, which are installed everywhere, donate soothing heat. The soil is very soft because it is laid out with mulch. There is a stage where different musicians perform Christmas songs. Around the square, there are many small huts on the side and in the middle, where people sell goodies and handicrafts. Above the palace square, fairy lights are hung up. These provide a wonderfully pleasant atmosphere. In one corner there is a small stable with a donkey and a few sheep. However, they did not look so pleased with the cold weather. &# 128512; &# 128512; The way from the parking lot to Niklasmarkt is also adorned with pictures and lighting, which creates a very pleasant atmosphere.

Gillamoos

Every year in autumn (the exact dates are here) the “Gillamoos” folk festival takes place. It is a very traditional beer festival that has been around for 700 years. Every year about 300,000 visitors come. For every person in the region, the festival is a big event every year. And rightly so, because it’s also a lot of fun. The mood at the party is very different to, for example, the big Oktoberfest in Munich, because here comes the majority of visitors from the immediate area. Many wear costumes and the mood on the Gillamoos is very solved. In the evening, the atmosphere in some tents is on the boil (especially Ochsenbräu tent). Then everyone stands on the beer benches and dance and party. Bierbanksurfing is also called that.

There are always several large marquees where you can eat and drink beer. For the Gillamoos is specially brewed a special beer, which is also very delicious. Like the Oktoberfest beer, this beer is spicier and fresher than regular beer. Around the marquees there are also various rides and stalls where you can buy food, shoot and play various games.

Every year there are different events. On the one hand, there are concerts by some very well-known musicians, local celebrations and on the last day of Gillamoos, a Monday, there is the so-called “political Gillamoos”. Again and again famous politicians come here to discuss with each other to make an election campaign.

A visit to the Gillamoos is well worth it in any case. It is a very traditional folk festival with a very peculiar style. If you are close by at the time, a visit is highly recommended. You can also do that with the whole family. There is also much to do for children.

around Essing

Essing

A beautiful old canal, in the background you can see the entrance of the dripstone cave Schulerloch,

Rugged rocks, a romantic old town and a small river in front of the houses: Essing is a real picture book place. On one side of Essing rise the white limestone cliffs of the Jura. On the top of the castle Randeck is clearly visible. On the other side of Essing is an old altmühlarm. The main road passes through beautiful, ancient houses. Essing has a very old wooden bridge with adjoining tower. In Essing there is also the small blue pot and the longest wooden bridge in Europe! In Essing there is also an art trail on which works by different artists are exhibited time and again. Essing was first mentioned in documents in 975.

In Altessing, which is located directly on the Altmühl there is a station of the Archeology Park Altmühltal. There is a forge right on the Altmühl. There is a place where you can make campfires. On a warm summer evening, that’s very nice. Walks along the canal are also very nice. You can then park your car well at the dripstone cave Schulerloch.

The blue pot at Essing

The blue pot in autumn

Of the Blue pot eating is a beautiful spring, located at the edge of the forest, with an emerald green to blue color. The water of the spring comes from the nearby sinkholes of Maierhofen. The source is a very nice place. The color of the source is very nice to look at with its intense blue and green. Especially when the sun is shining the source shines in the most beautiful colors. In the water trout swim back and forth and with its clarity you can look to the bottom. Next to the source is a meadow with a tree with a swing and a restaurant / hotel. The color of the source comes from magnesium, which is absorbed by the rock through which the water flows.

If you come by car the first destination is the Essinger Hof. Next to the hotel a small path leads across a meadow to Blautopf. There is also a trail leading past the spring, from where you can descend well to the source.

I liked the blue top so much that I dedicated a separate article to it.

Tatzelwurm: the longest wooden bridge in Europe

At Essing, the 200-meter-long wooden bridge spans the Altmühl. With its curved shape, the bridge is very well integrated into the landscape. That’s where her nickname “Tatzelwurm” comes from. The bridge is mainly intended for pedestrians and cyclists, but interestingly, it can also be used by cars.

Castle Randeck

About Essing are the remains of Burg Randeck.

Essing enthralls the castle Randeck from everywhere. Of the once mighty fortress, today only the outer walls, the dungeon and the keep (tower of the castle) stand. For the tour of the castle you have to pay 1 € entrance fee. But you often get guided tours. In the castle complex there are often exhibitions and sometimes concerts. From the tower you have a great view of the surrounding countryside.

The castle itself is very old. However, the story is not very well documented before 1000 AD, so we do not know much about it. The castle served as a protection for the local rulers.

Next to the castle there is a nice restaurant:

Knights Tavern at Burg Randeck

A few meters from the castle Randeck lies the knight‘s tavern. Here you can get excellent food at a reasonable price. Very pleasant is the terrace from where you have a good view of the Altmühltal. I also recommend the beers of the region.

Chapel “St. Bartholomew at Randeck

The chapel St. Bartholomä at Randeck.

At Randeck, this small and beautiful church stands by a small pond in the middle of a few fields.

Dripstone cave Schulerloch

The dripstone cave Schulerloch is a popular excursion destination for all ages. The limestone was slowly eroded here by the water over the millions of years. So here is a stalactite cave.

Guided tours take place several times a day from April to November. These are the only way to visit the cave. Explore with a group the most interesting corners of this cave. Photographing is not allowed. Dogs may be brought on a leash. The temperature in the cave is constantly 9 ° C (think of warm clothes).

The stalactites and stalagmites stimulate the imagination and remind of different animals. At one point you can see deep into the cave and see a whole forest of many small stalactites. A very special moment of guidance is when the light is completely turned off and you can listen to the silence of the cave.

A highlight of the cave is a special stalagmite, which has shaped like a small basin. It was created by the fact that the water was always in motion by falling drops and thus the lime has deposited only on the side. Over millions of years, a small basin has been created.

The cave was formerly owned by the Masons, who unfortunately were not so careful with the cave.

In winter, the cave is closed, as it then forms a shelter for bats.

From time to time concerts take place in the Topfsteinhöhle Schulerloch. The acoustics in the one hall is something very special. The concert will be accompanied by a light show with Schweinwerfern. A little taste of the concerts you get with every tour. In addition to the concerts, there are also candlelit dinners in the cave.

Next to the entrance of the cave there is also a small museum and a kiosk where you can get drinks and snacks. From the parking lot you have to walk for about 15 minutes to the cave (while walking through a piece of forest and overcomes 50 meters).

Castle Prunn

If you are interested in the history of the Altmühltal, then you should visit the Archeology Park and visit Prunn Castle. The

The castle can only be viewed with a guide. But it really pays off, because that’s how you get to know a lot of interesting things that would not be clear to you otherwise. For example, the reason why today you only see castles and palaces in the Altmühltal. In the long plain in the direction of Munich there used to be many castles, but the fortresses and castles here were built of wood, as there are not so many stones in the area. Of course, these castles have all fallen by now. Only the stone castles are still preserved today.

Historically interesting is also the Nibelungensage, which has played here in part in the area. On the castle Prunn one has also found an edition of this important legend.

around Riedenburg

Riedenburg

Riedenburg is a tranquil little town that has a beautiful old town. Cafes on the market square or on the banks of the Altmühl invite you to linger. Especially the cafes on the riverbank are very popular with motorcyclists.

In Riedenburg there are three castles, of which only two are visible. One is only a ruin, but from there you have a beautiful view over the Altmühltal. The other is even better preserved or restored. There are regular birds of prey shows here. More information is available here. There is a story that a female vulture named Wallie often makes a trip to the beer garden below the castle and here steals the steaks from the plate of tourists. &# 128512; There is a trail that connects all three castles.

crystal Museum

Another attraction in the city is the Crystal Museum. There are various gemstones and crystals to admire – including the largest rock crystal group in the world.

Bathing lake St. Agatha

The bathing lake St. Agatha is also worth a visit in autumn.

Hidden in a curve of the Almühl, barely visible from the outside, is the beautiful bathing lake St. Agatha. In summer, the lake offers a wonderful refreshment. But in every season the lake looks very nice. Especially in autumn, when the leaves are coloring, the landscape is very beautiful and is well suited for one or the other walk.

The lake is not easy to find. The first time I drove past it. The sign at the entrance is not very big and you can easily miss it. Also, the lake is not visible from the outside. You park in the parking lot in front of the lake. In summer you have to pay a few euros for it. The last few meters you go through a dense coniferous forest and suddenly you are in front of the beautiful lake.

google maps (the bathing lake is located in the district Haidhof)

Just in the neighborhood, a few hundred meters further on is the summer toboggan run:

Summer toboggan run Altmühltal – “Altmühlbob”

The summer toboggan run is great fun for the whole family. It’s a bit like roller coaster driving. You are pulled up the slope on a rope. Then you drive down the slope on rails again and brakes the small car in the appropriate places. It’s a big Gaudi: The wind blows through your hair and you can enjoy the rush of speed. &# 128512;

In addition to the toboggan run, there is also a playground and a small petting zoo with a few mini goats, which are very entertaining. There is also a quad track next to it.

Teufelsmauer

The view from the Drachenfliegerschanze at the Teufelsmauer on the Altmühltal.

The Teufelsmauer is a small rock formation on the edge of the Altmühltal. From a distance, it looks as if a wall of stone was embedded in the valley wall. From close, it can be seen that it is only an old rock formation. People used to tell the story that the devil on the wall kept recruiting people to hell.

Today there is a jump for hang-gliders and you have a nice view over the Altmühltal. The area up there is very nice and is good for walking.

Castle Eggersberg

Like most castles and palaces in the Altmühltal, Schloss Eggersberg is built on top of the valley. From the valley it looks very nice. In the castle there is a hotel where you can not only stay overnight, but also hold meetings or seminars. There is also a restaurant here. The garden of the castle is very beautiful. The castle can be reached via a small hiking trail from Untereggersberg.

Dietfurt

Dietfurt is a beautiful little town on the Altmühl. Worth seeing here is the medieval town fortification with several towers, the baroque parish church, the Franciscan monastery or the pilgrimage church. Interesting are the connections of the city with China. Every year there is the Chinese Carnival, there is an offer of Taiji and Qigong, a China Museum and a Chinese Summer Festival.

Beilngries

Beilngries is another small town with a very beautiful old town, pleasant atmosphere and a castle that towers over the town. In Beilngries there are many hotels in the historic center.

For the first time Beilngries was mentioned in 1007. For a long time, it was part of the Hochstift Eichstätt, which meant that many important master builders came to fruition here.

Especially worth seeing is the castle Hirschberg and several historic churches. The most interesting being the church St. Vitus in the district Köttingwörth. Here, in a chapel on the lower floor of the tower, a cycle of medieval murals has been preserved. The style of the houses in the city center is baroque, as can be seen for example at the town hall or the Frauenkirche.

Kipfenberg

Kipfenberg is a small tranquil town on a beautiful piece of the Altmühl with a very peaceful atmosphere. From far away is the castle Kipfenberg. Inside is a museum about Bavarians and Romans. In the beautiful old town, there is the parish church of the Assumption, which has been here since the 15th century and probably in its present form since the 17th century.

Very close to Kipfenberg is also the geographical center of Bavaria and the Grüntopf, a karst spring on the northern outskirts of Grösdorf about 200 meters right of the Altmühl.

Every year on the 15th of August the Limesfest takes place in Kipfenberg.

eichstätt

Eichstätt is often referred to as the capital of the Altmühltal. In fact, with a beautiful Baroque old town, many attractions, located in the middle of the upper Altmuehltal much to offer

There are many sights: There is one Eichstätt Cathedral It is very interesting with a mixture of different architectural styles (in the 8th century the first church was built here, the main building dates back to the Gothic and the Baroque facade), a very beautiful architecture and some works of art. Admission is free and the cathedral can be visited outside of the services all the time. More information is available here and at Wikipedia).

The Hofgarten of the summer residence is a beautiful little park not far from the Altmühl. In the warm months many flowers bloom here. It is ideal for relaxing.

Also beautiful is the biotope garden, where you can learn something about nature. As an extension of the exhibition “Nature” it offers interesting information about different plants of the region.

Another attraction is the Willibaldsburg, which for a long time was the seat of the Eichstätt prince-bishop. The castle has a very nice garden.

Interesting to stay is also the “Sightsleeping” in the monastery of St. Walburg. In the beautiful monastery can recover well and come to rest.

Jurassic rock slope with the rock group Twelve Apostles

Related to the famous rocks on the south coast of Australia is the Juratrockenhang with the rock group “Twelve Apostles”. Right next to the Altmühl a few white limestone rocks rise up here. The place is beautifully landscaped. The rocks are made of spongy lime that weathers more slowly than the surrounding area. This is how the rocks have developed.

Burgsteinfelsen at Dollnstein

The Burgsteinfelsen between Dollnstein and Breitenfurt is a 45 m high distinctive rock of white lime. Not only does it look nice, it’s also great for rock climbing. On routes with different levels of difficulty you can work on your climbing skills.

Treuchtlingen

In Treuchtlingen there is next to a beautiful old town especially the Altmühltherme, which is perfect for a wellness or active holiday. The Altmühltherme is a thermal bath with very mineral water that bubbles out of the ground here. In Treuchtlingen there is the city castle, where you can get to know the history of the Pappenheimer better. Especially nice at Trechtlingen are the many events that are here (see here for current events).

Castle Spielberg

At the western end of the Altmühltal, not far from Gunzenhausen (10 km south) is the castle Spielberg. The castle has a long history, which is documented only from the 12th century. Today there is an art exhibition in the castle.

Opening hours: Sunday: 14.00-16.30
Admission: 3 euros

Gunzenhausen

Gunzenhausen is a small, pretty town right next to the Altmühlsee. In addition to a beautiful old town, there are several museums in Gunzenhausen to visit and learn a lot about the Romans

Altmuehlsee

The western end of the Altmühltal forms the Altmühlsee at Gunzenhausen. The lake is part of the Franconian Lake District (in the vicinity there are the Great Brombachsee, as well as several small lakes). A few islands in the middle of the lake provide an ideal nesting place for birds.

In summer you can explore the lake well on the excursion boat “MS Altmühlsee”. In addition to the ship that connects the tourist centers around the lake are popular activities on the lake: sailing and kiteboarding. In addition, there are a few paths around the lake around which you can easily explore by bike or on foot.

Celtic jumps

Around the Altmühltal there are a lot of Celtic Hills. These hills are remnants of the Celts. Until today one does not know exactly what happened there and what stood there. Maybe it was settlements. But it could also have been places of worship. Most of the ski jumps are not really spectacular, because there is only a small hill to see. Because of their history, the places still have something mysterious about them.

activities

hike

The Altmühltal is wonderful for hiking. The landscape is beautiful, there are many well-developed trails, very much to see and in between very interesting hotels and inns.

A small overview of the routes in and around the Altmühltal can be found here, for example. There are also maps for every region of the tourist information, such as these for Riedenburg, or for Kelheim.

Altmühltal-Panoramaweg

The Altmühltal panorama path is the most important hiking trail in the Altmühltal. On it goes through fragrant juniper slopes, green beech forests, past old castles and palaces, through a beautiful landscape. It follows the valley of the Altmühl and has a total of 27 loop paths to offer where you can explore the area even more accurate. You can divide the path into different stages at your own discretion. The marker is a yellow sign with a red path (as seen here). The trail was voted “Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail 2012″ in 2012.

A nice thing is the hiking pass of the Central Tourist Information Naturpark Altmühltal. At different stations you get stamped in the passport. In the end you get awards and small gifts for it. (more here) There are also many innkeepers along the route who support the hikers in different ways.

St. James

The Ostbayerische Jakobsweg does not lead directly through the Altmühltal, but still very close by. This part of the Way of St. James comes from Prague and leads in the direction of Lake Constance. The sign of the Way of St. James shows very well the concept of the way. Several rays converge in one endpoint. This endpoint is Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

nice overview (as pdf)
There is an overview of the stages here, here and here and an overview here

To go biking

Exploring the Altmühltal by bike is very popular with visitors. With a well-developed bike network, beautiful scenery and many attractions are perfect conditions for cycling. In Altmühltal there is the Altmühlradweg. It is 250 km long and leads from Kelheim at the eastern end to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. From Kelheim to Gunzenhausen the path leads through the Altmühltal. Between Gunzenhausen and Rothenburg you can either look at the source of the Altmühl or take the easier, direct path (without the mountains).

You can see the bike path through a sign with a green cyclist and the inscription “Altmühltal” above.

boating

The Altmühltal is ideal for exploring by boat yourself. It is the slowest river in Bavaria and not so deep in the upper reaches. This is ideal for beginners and families. On the slow river, you can drift wonderfully and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

In addition to small day trips, it is also very nice to make boat trips and to explore the Altmühltal in several daily stages.

A nice offer for day trips with the kayak is for example this one here.

camping

If you want to stay closer to nature, a campsite is recommended. There are also quite a few camping sites in Altmühltal, and of course they are especially beautiful here in Altmühltal with the landscape. &# 128578;

Map of the Altmühltal

Here I marked the Altmühltal on google maps, so that one has a good overview. The Altmühltal Nature Park is even bigger than the Altmühltal. It

I think you can divide the Altmühltal into several sections. From Kelheim to Dietfurt, the Altmühl is very wide, as it flows here together with the Main-Danube Canal. There is a lot to see in this section. In the section between Dietfurt and the A9, the road is wide and you get ahead quickly. From here, the Altmühl is natural and a small romantic river. After the A9 to Gunzenhausen the road is very small and narrow. It takes a long time to get ahead. Here it is a lot quieter and more idyllic. Here lies Eichstätt, which is considered the capital of the Altmühltal.
