A newborn has no idea of ​​day or night and that there is no rhythm here, especially if it knows nothing. In the first weeks of life, the daily rhythm is spent eating and sleeping anyway. There are 5 sleep phases within a period of 16 to 18 hours a day. From the 6th month of life, a longer continuous sleep phase of 6 hours develops and a nighttime sleep interruption in breastfeeding babies is to be regarded as normal.

From the third and the fourth month of life, the day’s sleep phase is also lost. The baby wants to perceive more of its surroundings and participate in everyday life. In the course of the first year of life, sleep becomes less and less and is then limited to two sleep phases, which take place at night. It also depends on the individual development stage of your child. In addition, there are vaccinations, which can also lead to sleep disorders in babies and toddlers, in which fever may occur immediately after the vaccinations.

Especially in the first weeks of life there can be troubled moments with a Newborns come because the child and also the parents have to really adapt to this new situation. The list of causes for problems with falling asleep or staying asleep in babies is long. However, if the baby cries every day before bedtime, it should be presented to the responsible pediatrician for examination. If the latter does not find any organic symptoms, then work should be done on the domestic and social environment of the baby and the parents, grandparents, etc..

Furthermore, the babies are sometimes cranked up and over the top, especially when they are at an age when they start to crawl and explore the world. You are curious and want to explore and get to know your environment.

You can only sleep well when you are comfortable and safe, and so is your little darling. Babies have to learn this situation first. So it has to learn first that an evening bottle and that on the mother’s arms is something completely natural and completely normal.

The best start time for sleep rituals is in the sixth to eighth week of life, so your child can get used to the fixed processes and deal with this bedtime more relaxed and calm. It also recognizes that not much happens from this time phase, the actions of the day end here.

The fixed sleep ritual begins with the cozy furnishings of the children’s room. So the children’s room should be set up so that the baby can feel really comfortable in this room. Furthermore, you can arrange the time of bedtime with happy, relaxing events for everyone involved in this process. This includes cuddles or even a gentle full-body massage with fragrant oils, as well as the baby’s evening bathing pleasure.

Causes of sleep disorders in babies and toddlers

In order to help your children effectively, parents first need some important basic information about sleep and sleep disorders in babies and toddlers. In most cases, problems falling asleep and staying asleep occur only temporarily in childhood and adolescence and have something to do with the development phases.

The teething begins at the baby’s fourth month of life, which in turn can cause sleep disorders and fever.

Furthermore, a sleep disorder can also be connected to various diseases. So z. B. a cold and a stuffy nose make it difficult for the toddler to breathe and thus disturb the relaxed sleep. If your baby’s sleep disorders are not under control, a pediatrician should be consulted with the clinical examination.

However, you can also do a lot by using the biochemical mineral salts before going to bed.

Schuessler salts for sleep disorders

With the biochemical mineral salts, your child can relax and calmly sleep and sleep through. The basic recipe is for the two biochemical mineral salts No. 2 Calcium phosphoricum D6 and No. 7 Magnesium phosphoricum D6. You relax the entire organism and let cramped events and also cramped muscles on and in the organism relax more easily and thus your baby will find a relaxing sleep setting.

To do this, give your baby 2 tablets of the biochemical mineral salts listed above before going to bed. Either in the evening bottle or from one year to suck one tablet after the other directly into the baby’s mouth. If the infant is still breastfeeding, the mother should suck 5 tablets of the mineral salts listed above 3 times a day. The baby then gets its corresponding ration of Schüßler salts directly from breast milk.

If you find that your child sleeps very restlessly, nightmares can also hide behind it. The following biochemical mineral salts should be administered to the baby with 1 tablet each. These are the following biochemical mineral salts:

  • No. 3 Ferrum phosphoricum D6 – against the violent nightmares
  • No. 8 sodium chloratum D6 – for cramped situations
  • No. 11 Silicea D12 – transforms the "bad thoughts and impressions" into happy thoughts
  • No. 23 Natrum bicarbonicum D6 – deacidifies the organism and gives the kidneys their functional capacity

If your baby is completely excited and over-excited, the biochemical mineral salt No. 5 potassium phosphoricum D6 has proven very effective. You give it in the form of a hot sieve of this Schüßler salt by dissolving 5-10 tablets in hot water and stirring with a wooden or plastic spoon and slowly dropping the cooled mineral drink into the child’s mouth with a pipette.

If there is still no improvement after 2 days, the No. 5 potassium phosphoricum D6 should be replaced by the No. 7 Magnesium phoshoricum D6 accordingly.

If your little darling always wakes up between 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., it is a sign that the biochemical mineral salt No. 10 sodium sulfuricum D6 can also be used with 2 tablets 3 times a day.

Furthermore, after bathing, it is very useful to light the child’s stomach in the evening before going to bed with the Schüßler salt ointment No. 7 Magnesium phosphoricum D6 alternating with the Schüßler salt ointment No. 10 sodium sulfuricum D6 clockwise with warm hands to be massaged in and then put into bed without major disturbances.

A soothing tea blend has also proven itself very well from phytotherapy (herbal medicine):

The tea blend consists of the following plants:

  • 10 g anisi fructus (aniseed fruits)
  • 10 g Lavendulae flos (lavender flowers) and
  • 30 g melissae folium (lemon balm leaves)

Prepare a tea from this mixture with 500 ml of boiled water by using the mixed parts of the plant with the Pour boiling water over it. To do this, take 2 tablespoons of the mixture, leave the tea covered for 5 minutes and then strain it. Let it cool down to hand warmth and use a spoon to pour the tea straight into your mouth. It has a calming and sleepy effect.
