Smoking in apartment – danger for children, cold smoke – health, switzerland

Every smoker should know that the consumption of nicotine and therefore smoking is not particularly beneficial to health. But what about the "cold smoke" and its effect on non-smokers? There are numerous rumors about the cold smoke and its effects and some people even believe that the cold smoke is even more harmful to children than active smoking. But how about smoking in your own 4 walls and the danger to the children?

Smoking in your own 4 walls – what dangers should be considered?

Smoking is never healthy, this fact is undisputed. But it is not only the nicotine contained in cigarettes and cigars, the effect of which has an addictive effect on our body that must be seen as a danger. No, smokers should consider much more than this a danger before they pick up the next cigarette. Because the most common health risks for smokers include:

  • An increased risk of cancer
  • An increased risk of heart attack / stroke
  • An increased risk of atherosclerosis

But it is not only these well-known risks of smoking that make the blue mist so dangerous. No, the fact that smoking can cause nasal and oral mucous membranes to become a fatal health risk. Difficulty breathing, irritated and dry eyes, poor circulation and poor cell regeneration are often the consequences of the substances contained in the cigarette.

This risks smoking is not just for the smoker as such. Anyone who smokes in their own four walls endangers all people who live in this household or who regularly stay in it. This increases the health risk from smoking not just for that Smoker per se, but also for everyone from his closest social environment.

How dangerous is "cold smoke" for children and older people?

How vulnerable are children and the elderly?

Children in particular are affected by the dangers of smoking within their own four walls. The health-damaging consequences of nicotine consumption are felt faster and more dominantly at a young age than at an adult age. The reason for this is the not yet fully developed immune system and the physical characteristics of children’s bodies.

Children are more susceptible to the effects of smoke because:

  • Children inhale proportionally more nicotine and tar than adults
  • The child’s immune system is not yet fully developed
  • Children generally belong to a health risk group

The smoke of a single cigarette can cause lasting damage to children through passive consumption. Nicotine has a stronger and more devastating effect on the child’s brain than on the adult smoker. The drying out of mucous membranes or the sensitive surface of the eyes often occurs more quickly, and ultimately passive smoking by children is therefore a guarantee of numerous illnesses in later life in the long term.

Smoking is dangerous for older people:

  • To intensify existing diseases.
  • Let age-related diseases progress faster.
  • To worsen the general state of health sustainably.

However, older people or sick family members also suffer from passive smoking in their own four walls. Above all in old age, the body is often weakened by age-related illnesses, if passive smoking is added, the general health situation often deteriorates visibly in a frighteningly short time.

Smoke-free homes protect the health of the whole family!

Protect smoke-free in your own 4 walls and protect the health of the family

In order to protect their own health and enable children to grow up healthily, more and more smokers are refraining from enjoying their tobacco products in their own four walls. This decision is correct and important, because even with a lot of ventilation or your own smoking area, the burden of cold smoke for children is not entirely avoidable.

If you can’t smoke in your own 4 walls:

  • Promote / protect the health of the whole family.
  • Live in a smoke-free apartment without smell.
  • At least somewhat mitigate the harmful effects of smoking.
  • Enjoy greater living comfort thanks to the pleasant air in the rooms.

However, if you do not want to completely do without the cigarette after dinner or with coffee, you can at least use the balcony or a little walk outdoors to indulge in the enjoyment and not harm the family in the process. For many smokers, this behavior is also a good first step towards being a “non-smoker”, because the more effort that has to be put into smoking the cigarette, the more likely one is to refrain from it.

For the health it is always an advantage if living rooms are smoke-free and there are no negative effects from cold smoke in the air. If you then consider how uncomfortable it is to get into a room with cold nicotine smoke or how unpleasant the clothes can smell, then it is almost easy not to smoke in your own four walls from now on.
