The best time to visit thailand – climate table and tips for your family holiday

Best time to travel to Thailand

Thailand has a tropical climate, it is very warm all year round, with high humidity. During the day, the temperature is usually around 30 degrees. With a cooling breeze on the beach, an island stay is ideal.

In a big city like Bangkok, it’s important to take time to acclimatize and give yourself and your family enough peace and quiet. We encourage you to start your holiday with your children with the building block Tuk-Tuks and Temple in Bangkok.

In Thailand, the rainy season plays a big role. There are occasional shivers throughout the year and there are several monsoon periods (varying in each region) where it rains more than the rest of the year. Nevertheless, you can travel Thailand all year round, if the route is well planned. From December to May is the driest time, there are favorable conditions for all activities.

Climate in the different regions

Hectic honking of tuk tuks (auto rickshaws) and ringing temple bells: Sawadee Ka in Thailand. Upon arrival at the airport you will immediately realize that you have Asian soil under your feet. Central Thailand (River Kwai, for example) can be visited all year round. It rains more frequently between May and September, but often provides a welcome respite in the afternoon. In the rainy season it often rains at predictable times. Our travel specialists know the weather in Thailand and take this into account when planning their travel.

Northern Thailand does not have a real rainy season, you can travel all year round. From time to time there are shivers, in the months of August and September, they occur more often. However, the showers are passing quickly as it is not as warm here as in the rest of the country. During the hikes, it is pleasant when it is a bit cooler. The warmest months (up to 35 degrees) for Chiang Mai and the surrounding area are April & May.

In the south

… the rainy season is longer than in the north or in central Thailand. Planning therefore requires a little more attention. On the southwest coast with Koh Lanta falls the most precipitation. In May, the little monsoon season begins, when the rain is more frequent and unpredictable. The small monsoon lasts until mid-June. The true rainy season begins in August, peaking in October. The best time to visit the islands Railay Bay, Koh Lanta or Phi Phi is from November to April.

In November, the south-east monsoon gets really on tour: Koh Samui and Koh Phangan then get the full load. In January, it is also sunny and dry again, the sea can still be dirty from the algae, which has brought the storm with it. The best travel time for the islands in the southeast are the months of March to September.

If you travel during school holidays

Winter holidays: An excellent travel time. Although it may rain occasionally, the sun is shining abundantly and the weather is very pleasant throughout Thailand. So you can do all our round trips at this time.

Easter holidays: This is also an excellent time to spend a holiday in Thailand with your children. It is warmer than in the other months, but since the small monsoon begins in the southwest, a refreshing shower can occasionally fall. In the south it rains more often than in other parts of the country because of the high humidity. Since the school holidays are exactly two weeks, for example, the round trip Adventurous Thailand is recommended.

A raft trip can be very fun.

Summer holidays: During this period, the rainy season is beginning in different parts of Thailand. That does not mean that it rains all day long. However, expect a refreshing shower in the late afternoon. If you would like to conclude your trip with a beach holiday, we recommend that you end the round trips on Koh Phangan or Koh Samui. The rainy season starts here only in November.

Autumn holidays: October is generally a pretty wet month in Thailand, but that does not apply to the whole country. You can then go well to North and Central Thailand, with plenty of sun and occasional showers. In the southwest is the peak of the rainy season in October. Also on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan it rains more often in October.

Christmas holidays: An excellent travel time for Thailand, because it is actually nice everywhere. That’s not to say it never rains, but there’s plenty of sunshine. You can therefore choose between all the blocks.

And outside school holidays?

In short, the period from November to the end of June is a good travel time. In April, it is a bit warmer because of the high humidity. May, September and October are the wettest months. But be aware that the weather is difficult to predict and that a dry season is not a guarantee for a holiday without rain. When planning your trip, we take into account the different weather conditions, so you have the best chance of good weather.
