The daring Daniel (2,340m) – King of the Ammergau Alps

The Daniel is 2,340 meters the highest mountain in the Ammergau Alps and is already on the Austrian side in Tyrol.

Actually, the mountain is called only “Daniel”. In our hiking book is also the talk of “daring Daniel”.
According to the Duden boldly means too “Proficient”, what characterizes the tour already a matching attribute. It is certainly anything but a walk, but after a “good” ascent through a varied route Daniel rewards the hiker “well” with one beautiful view.
That ‘s why every year numerous mountaineers make a pilgrimage to the Daniel to get the Tyrolean mountain firer to look at from above.

In addition to the magnificent view we must the Tuftelalm (1.496m) definitely positive, which is right on the way to the summit.
On the Tuftelalm you get one good snack, delicious fresh buttermilk and can already do that Enjoy views of Ehrwald, Lermoos and the surrounding mountains.

The ascent to the Daniel

The tour starts at the train station in Ehrwald, more precisely at the railway bridge which can not be overlooked.
At the beginning it goes steeply up the tarmac road Direction Tuftlalmsteig to Tuftelalm. The Tuftelalm at 1,496 meters invites you to a short stopover. But it also offers itself during the descent as a restful snack station.
After the Tuftelalm there are two variants to reach the summit of Daniel. The longer route leads past the hut to the left over the green ups (1.852 m) and the Upsspitze (2.232 m) to the summit. The shorter one leads directly behind the Alm over the meadow at the small chapel St. Leonhard over to the top.
A time is still in the woods and glades over there. At the end, towards the ridge, the Geslände steep, rocky and exhausting. The ascent over the Schutthänge then demands again a strong condition.

After a good 3.5 hours you have reached the summit with its magnificent views.

The descent is via the ascent route.
