The children’s conference
What happens if the children of this world decide to no longer tolerate the madness of adults? In a poetic and highly topical manner, “The Conference of Children” tells of a special takeover of power. The work, based on a motif by Erich Kästner, enables over 100 pupils of different origins and backgrounds to get creative with the subject areas of war, flight and To deal with environmental degradation.
“The Conference of Children” is a cross-divisional project that gives children the opportunity to deal with the subject of war / displacement / flight in a variety of ways. What is special about the concept is the tactile aspect that the work is not yet completely finished at the start of the project, but rather allows the children to complete it on the basis of an intensive discussion of the content in the course of the project through their own creative work (improvisation, composing). So it is a participatory collaborative work between the composer Arne Gieshoff, the librettist Alexander Gruber, the project management Prof. Elisabeth Holmer and Prof. Wolfgang Lessing, the participating ensembles AuditivVokal, El Perro Andaluz and transit place and the children involved.
The project is designed as a free retelling and scenic adaptation of Erich Kästner’s work "The Conference of Animals". Kästner’s passionate appeal for children’s rights and against war, violence and ignorance is more topical than ever. The performance of the “Conference of Children” is also a homage to the Dresden author, whose 120th birthday we are celebrating in 2019.

The educational director of the project, Prof. Wolfgang Lessing, on the phone – 10 a.m. is an elastic term. From the second day of #konferenz_der_kinder nobody came too late, the children have already taken care of that. In spoken passages, the conductors show the rhythms on drums. This helps the children learn and conveys a new timbre.
