Exhibition of the artist Christel Lechner – opening on April 24th

REES. "Faces that have a story to tell are much more exciting than a perfect complexion and flawless skin." With this sentence, artist Christel Lechner clearly describes what she attaches particular importance to in her concrete sculptures. After everyday people "took part" in exhibitions in Berlin, Iserlohn, Strasbourg or most recently in Telgte, Lechner’s figures are shown to the Lower Rhine audience for the first time.
It will be striking that the figures rarely follow common fashion trends or beauty ideals. Instead, it is literally everyday people who express friendliness and serenity and thus convey spontaneous sympathy. The figures were not cast, but all of them were created layer by layer with a trowel and spatula and were lovingly modeled and shaped. Since year In 1996 Lechner dealt with the creation of their everyday people.

During the exhibition, the everyday people will be involved and made tangible by the artist in cooperation with the cultural office of the city of Rees in a tour of around two kilometers long through the historic city center of Rees. For example, while a group of surfers is set up on the Rhine promenade ahead a group of people as a polonaise in the town hall. Other exhibition venues include the frog pond, the roundel and various areas of the city center. The team of tour guides will offer special themed tours especially for “everyday people”.

Mayor Christoph Gerwers is already looking forward to the upcoming exhibition: "Everyday people will attract many visitors in the summer and make the historic city center of Rees even more lively", Gerwers is certain. Ludger Beltermann, head of the School, Culture, Sports and City Marketing department, added: “The artist is also impressed by the exhibition opportunities in Rees. The many water areas in particular offer Christel Lechner a unique backdrop. ”

The exhibition was organized by the cultural office of the city of Rees and made possible by numerous partners. The largest sponsors include Volksbank Emmerich-Rees, Holemans, RWE, For Farmers Thesing, Rees Transport and Beautification Association and Hotel Rheinpark.

Since last Wednesday, two figures by Lechner have been drawing attention to the exhibition in front of the Rees town hall, before the construction of the further 64 "friends" begins on Tuesday, April 19. The opening of the exhibition, the ones from Halderner wind band will be accompanied on Sunday, April 24th, at 11.30 a.m..
