Both free open air events have been classics in the annual event calendar of the Elbe metropolis for many years and are a must for every fan of the "Free and Outdoor" culture in the Hanseatic city. The little hunger in between is also taken care of here. At both open air events, a rich gastronomic offer on the Rathausmarkt offers visitors culinary diversity.

The open-air cinema on the Rathausmarkt is one of the longest-serving, most popular and most visited open-air festivals of its kind in the Hanseatic city. It is organized by the Metropolis Kino in cooperation with the Authority for Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and takes place every year in June and July. Then the Rathausmarkt is transformed into a cinema hall for a total of 10 days, in which cineastes can enjoy a large selection of films of all genres under the open sky every evening. No matter whether blockbusters, Hollywood ham or classic cinema – the varied film program is aimed at all target groups and offers exactly the right thing for every taste and age. Everyone really gets their money’s worth here. The demonstration starts every day after dusk at 10 p.m..

The live concerts begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and last until midnight. On Saturday the live concerts last from 1 p.m. to midnight and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m..
