The open-air cinema on the Rathausmarkt is one of the oldest, most popular and most visited open-air festivals of its kind in the Hanseatic city. It is organized by the Metropolis Kino in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and takes place every year in June and July. Then, for a total of 10 days, the Rathausmarkt is transformed into a cinema hall where cineasts can enjoy a large selection of films of all genres in the open air every evening. Whether blockbusters, Hollywood ham or cinema classics – the varied film programme is aimed at all target groups and offers just the right thing for every taste and every age. Here everyone really gets his money’s worth. The show starts every day at 22:00 at night after dusk.

The Rockspektakel is held every year on a weekend in September – and has been since 1988. For a total of 3 days, the Rathausmarkt is transformed into a large open-air festival area, where visitors can enjoy an extensive live music programme – in the open air and at absolutely no cost. No matter whether rock, punk, heavy metal, ska, reggae, electro, latin or pop – bands of all musical styles perform here. The live music programme is as varied as the colourfully mixed, international audience and offers just the right thing for every taste and every age. It includes both newcomers and well-known, commercially successful bands in the national and international music scene. In the 30-year history of the rock spectacle so far, renowned artists and bands such as Die abstürzenden Brieftauben, Die Prinzen, Lotto King Karl, Lemonbabies, H-Blockx, Selig, The Busters, Nina Hagen & Band, Beatsteaks and Revolverheld have been on stage.

The live concerts start on Friday at 18:00 in the evening and last until 24:00 at night. On Saturday the live concerts last from 13:00 o’clock at noon to 24:00 o’clock at night and on Sunday from 13:00 o’clock at noon to 22:00 o’clock at night.
