Who doesn’t know it? The whole family goes on holiday, but the initial euphoria ends in stressed parents and dissatisfied children. The right hotel is crucial for a successful wellness holiday with your offspring. A wellness hotel that specialises in families will at best do justice to all family members. This is achieved above all with separate spa areas, where parents can relax in peace and the children can let off steam, as well as with activities and facilities for children of all ages. When parents want to spend time together or enjoy a massage, they want to be able to rely on flexible childcare. For a relaxing holiday with the whole family, you should inform yourself in advance about the hotel’s facilities and offers.

A family holiday can be both: a harmonious, stress-free, loving gathering of all family members or an endless nightmare. With moaning children, annoyed parents, with frustration about the selected hotel and the jointly sworn “Never again” oath. In order to at least keep the annoyance about the booked wellness hotel as low as possible, you will find here some advice on what to look out for in a family-friendly apostrophized hostel.

At first glance, children and wellness don’t go well together. The adults want to relax, seek peace and relaxation, while the kids want to romp around and find noise in every variation highly desirable – the louder, the better. For this reason, some wellness hotels have already started not to accept children under 16 as guests with the “Adult only” concept. However, there is also a contrary trend, and it is very strong: more and more wellness hotels specialise in children, babies or both, in Austria there are around 50, in Germany even fewer.

Their goal is to strike a balance between the comfort requirements for adults and the activities for the little ones – and some of them manage it wonderfully. Especially when the parents have their own spa, where children have no access, but at the same time the kids do not have to do without pools, water slides and the like. It is of course ideal if the adult spa and the children’s wellness area are not too far apart. Because it can be quite annoying to walk through the whole complex several times a day just because the adult sauna is at the end of the other hotel wing.

If you have children, then you know that small children have completely different needs than the larger ones. While the ten-year-old loves the adventure playground with the Indian tent, the 13-year-old is bored that everything is terribly dull and nothing is going on. A five-year-old may be thrilled by the shallow children’s pool with the water slide, but a two-year-old will die in it. It is therefore crucial, before a wellness holiday with the family, to obtain concrete information about the age group for which the child-friendly facility is designed.

The same applies to the care of your children, as all family wellness hotels offer this. It is also important to know which age group they are suitable for (usually only for children from the age of three), but also how many hours they can have at all – the spectrum makes the difference and ranges from three to twelve hours a day. Of course, very few people will come up with the idea of having their children looked after twelve hours a day at a time. But it is fine for all parents if they have more choice and can therefore plan their time more flexibly. Be it to enjoy body or facial treatments in the afternoon, or be it to perhaps spend a romantic dinner undisturbed for two. A support – it is usually already contained in the room price – takes place nearly always in groups, some hotels specialized in family vacation offer for surcharge also a personal Nanny , which makes particularly sense for small children and babies.

Apropos baby, before booking you should clarify some important questions with the hotel, including whether the elevator is big enough for a pram, whether you have to climb stairs to get to the restaurant or the room and whether there is a baby-friendly equipment (changing table, diaper bucket, night light, glass warmer, kettle). And what happens on rainy days? Is there then also enough lounge and play area inside?
