We like the Baltic Sea. Sure, in the south you have sun and heat guarantee, but the Baltic Sea simply has charm and I admit, the short travel time makes it all the more attractive. Since I was often asked where you can go on holiday with several children at the Baltic Sea, today a small list. And what I take with me on my summer holidays, you can read here.
Warnemünde and surroundingsIn Warnemünde you can have a wonderful holiday, because there is something to experience in any weather.
SleepingWe love to sleep at the Hanse Hotel Best Western. The apartments are big enough for the five of us. The breakfast is rich and varied, a playroom on the same level makes the food more relaxed for everyone and the hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the lighthouse. If you like the hustle and bustle, it’s not far, otherwise you can just relax on the beach. In summer there is children’s fun from 16-18 and 19-21 o’clock. Also the evening buffet is always very, very tasty and the staff super friendly. We simply always feel comfortable and always like to come back.
Not yet tested, but also great for families the a-ja hotel should be. In Warnemünde itself there are also a lot of holiday flats directly at the Alter Strom or in the city. The Resort Hohe Düne can be reached by ferry. We had a look at everything from the outside. It looks great and I think you can do very well here. You just have to dig deep into your pocket.
In best memory I have the Hotel Warnemünder Hof. It is a little outside of Warnemünde, but we felt very comfortable. We had to try in the pack again. Next door is the youth hostel. This hostel is also supposed to be very family-friendly and unbeatable in price.
Nienhagen is 9 kilometres from Warnemünde. This can be easily done by bike, always along the steep coast. The small village is not so crowded, here you can easily spend your summer holiday and make excursions from here. The many holiday apartments and houses are suitable for families. In the Seepferdchen holiday park you can rent semi-detached houses. There is a restaurant with a playground. Perfect for relaxing while the children play. The houses are also not so close to each other and I think children quickly find friends here. You can rent bicycles and go to the sauna, play mini golf and grill.
The holiday apartments along the beach road are also beautiful and comfortable. Generally you can see many families in Nienhagen during the holiday season. The beach is a bit narrower than in Warnemünde, because Nienhagen is situated on the steep coast. You can eat well in every restaurant, there is a fishery and a baker. Everything you need. I like Nienhagen very much.
A few years ago I was in Kühlungsborn for a cure, unfortunately I did not book any hotels or holiday flats, so that I cannot give any recommendations for this place. My neighbour is staying in the holiday apartment Villa Hanse and thinks it’s great. But Kühlungsborn is worth a vacation. At the harbour you can watch the boats in the sun, stroll along the beach road and spend your time at the numerous playgrounds. Here you can find many hotels and holiday flats and I think you won’t be disappointed.
ExcursionsFrom Nienhagen and Warnemünde you can reach many destinations very quickly. A visit to Bad Doberan is definitely worthwhile. Once with the Molly railway to Kühlungsborn or Heiligendamm drive is something special. You should also have a look at the cathedral. There is also a playground, the children do not get bored.
Who has very good nerves, goes to Karl´s Erdbeerhof in Rövershagen. You can spend a whole day here, it’s almost like an adventure park. Unfortunately very full. I think it gets empty two hours before the end and you can really enjoy your stay.
The harbour and the old town of Rostock are just as recommendable as a visit to the Rostock Zoo. And those who like it noble can go to the beach of Heiligendamm and go back to old venerable times. The beach is not overcrowded and you can get a coffee and an ice cream at the pier.
The DarßThis peninsula east of Rostock is something special because nature is unique. Here you will find cosy hotels, holiday apartments and restaurants in every town along the coast.
ExperienceMost of the time we are on the Darß in autumn and winter, of course you can also spend the summer here wonderfully. Our goal is almost always Zingst. On one side the sea, on the other side the Bodden. The little town is getting bigger and bigger, but at least we take care not to exaggerate with the construction of big ugly houses. The Kurhaus was restored years ago and one looks at the Baltic Sea while eating. In addition, there are regular events around the Kurhaus and a waffle at Waffel-Maik is compulsory. In the Experimentarium, young and old can learn something. Should it rain, the whole family is in good hands here. There are restaurants by the meter, as well as many shops and cafés. Between Christmas and New Year we always try our luck from the pier to the harbour through all the mulled wine stands. Hicks. A harbour tour over the Bodden is obligatory, as well as a visit to Barth.
Sleeping in Zingst is a great way to sleep with children in holiday apartments. A little outside are the holiday apartments Achtern Diek. The Aparthotel Steigenberger offers a more elegant place to sleep right by the pier. But I would look for an apartment or a house. In Zingst, one can comfortably buy food on foot and feast oneself through numerous restaurants. We are always welcome everywhere with all children. However, one should make a reservation if one sees a restaurant that pleases. It is often crowded and especially with several children you don’t always get a big table.
I don’t even know my way around this corner, because as you can see, we are mostly east of Rostock. But thanks to an invitation to the Hotel Strandkind in Pelzerhaken, we will surely explore this corner better in the future. Timmendorfer Strand and Scharbeutz is certainly known to many and in Scharbeutz we have also seen some nice hotels, whereby I find fur hooks, even if it is much smaller, much nicer. Neustadt is close by and to spend a day at the beach it is worth a day trip to Scharbeutz.
I have tried to list only hotels and accommodations that we know or at least have heard that they should be family friendly. Of course there is so much more to discover, but this is beyond the scope and if I am asked for personal experiences, I cannot list all holiday apartments and hotels in the Baltic Sea. But I would be very happy if you would add your tips for a successful holiday at the Baltic Sea in the comments. On Pinterest I also collect Baltic Sea travel recommendations.
