When babies teething.

As a dentist and father of a seven-month-old daughter, I am particularly interested in writing about babies babies. As a young parent, the usually slightly more turbulent first three months of life have been brought to fruition, when you see yourself confronted with new challenges from about half a year on: teething!

The first little tooth is something special and is expected with joy. Almost always at the age of six to ten months, a central incisor appears in the lower jaw. This exciting time for parents and offspring often starts with the child becoming restless and eating less, often crying or crying or even feeling feverish. The saliva usually flows in streams. Teething causes a very unpleasant feeling of tension in the jaw, so that babies take everything into their mouths for some relief. Occasionally, swelling and redness occur at the site of the eruption. If the baby is also a little feverish, you should also consult the pediatrician, to be sure that there are no other causes.

How can you help your child to get through this difficult time? Of course, the most important thing when dealing with children is understanding and patience. When your child cries, take it in your arms and comfort it. If this does not bring much relief and you have reached the end of your strength, the industry has developed effective means to facilitate teething. The most common recommended drug is the dental gel Dentinox. This is applied to the edentulous jaw and painkilling, anti-inflammatory and promoting wound healing. If there is a fever that has been diagnosed safely in connection with teething, you can also administer fever suppositories (paracetamol). As always with these products: For risks and side effects ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Mostly, these two drugs are not needed as young parents. Homeopathic remedies from the pharmacy can help. Very good and simple relief but already provide, for example, teething rings made of artificial material. Natural products are also very suitable as a so-called tooth bite. Such as peeled and refrigerated carrots. A well-tried dental aid is also the violet root, which is obtained from the rhizome of the iris and attached to a ribbon. This biting root contains pain relieving ingredients that are released when the baby chews on them. It is important to place the violet root regularly in boiling water to destroy germs and bacteria.

But no matter what options you will apply, I hope you and your child in particular will come through this troubled time well and mostly painless.

If you have any questions about this or any other topic, do not hesitate and ask the dentists of the dental practice Dr. med. Trapper & Dr. Aplas.
