Committed telling

Samira Buschmann

As a language mentor, I meet Ha regularly. She comes from Vietnam, is my age and is currently training in Germany as a geriatric nurse. We like to do something together, exchange ideas and have even become friends. Cooking, going to the cinema, ice cream eat, Walking – we always have fun together! It is nice that you can do so many different things in this voluntary work, because it never gets boring – and the main thing is that we have the opportunity to talk to each other. I find the time we spend together very valuable. And what’s more, Has Deutsch is becoming more and more fluid, which both of us are very happy about!

When I retired, I really wanted to get involved and make the most of my free time use. After talking to the volunteer center, I realized that I wanted to do something with children. I am now in a daycare center two days a week. The teachers are very open to me. It took the kids a while, but now they come up to me, want to play with me, or ask me to read to them. My job is to promote the language with a small group of children. It is so nice to see how the children are looking forward to me and how much it helps to support the children in the language in a playful way can.
