Wedding with children: games – babysitters for the wedding party

Wedding with children

If you decide to have a wedding with children, simple tricks can prevent boredom and loud crying. So your wedding will be the big family party you want, where all generations feel comfortable and the bride and groom are still the focus.

Celebrate relaxed with children

Ideally, there is a babysitter for the time of the wedding to keep the children in front of the door. Many registry offices and churches offer secondary rooms that can be used for the time. Painting and picture books are particularly suitable for employment, and even small dolls or toy cars do not cause boredom.

  • Tip: The children can draw pictures of the bride and groom and later give their works to the couple.

Larger children are already interested in parts of the ceremony. The easiest way is to take cuddly toys or small books with you. If it takes too long, the little ones are busy.

Child-friendly entertainment at the wedding party

  • >Fun and games at the wedding party
  • Trip to Jerusalem
  • Apple rings on the cord
  • Eierlaufen
  • Dancing with the stopwatch
  • newspaper Dancing
  • Balloon Dancing
  • flour cutting
  • Topfschlagen
  • Blindman’s Buff

It is best to involve the children during the celebration itself. Small quizzes around the bride and groom or games in which the children have to look for something are very popular – especially when funny prizes are on the cards. It is important that games are chosen that do not stain the clothing.

Setting up a play corner makes sense in any case. There is no space for this on the board. It is best to set up a game table in a quiet part of the ballroom or in an adjoining room and decorate it especially for the children. Great accessories include puzzles, board and dice games, puzzle books, building blocks, disposable cameras or picture books.

Attention: For smaller children, do not provide felt-tip pens or watercolors to avoid stains in the wardrobe of the parents or the bride. For the little ones you can set up a playmat with a play sheet.

With all the planning of a play corner, it can still be hardly used, since larger groups of children often have their own ideas about entertainment and implement their own ideas.

Children as part of the wedding reception

In the past, it was a matter of course that the offspring were also part of the wedding party and the children usually burst with pride when they take on smaller tasks. Traditionally, this is done as a flower girl, bearer of the train or ring pillow.

The bride and groom may also like a little serenade after the wedding. Older children in particular can make a contribution to the program, such as performing a small sketch or, in the case of particularly brave ones, announcing the upcoming program items. It is important that the bride and groom act in the interests of the bridal couple and that the parents do not just want to proudly present their offspring.

Small gifts keep friendship alive

Even the smallest guests can look forward to a little something that has only been selected for them. These can be:

  • a grab bag
  • Favorite magazine
  • small balls, cars or dolls
  • soap bubbles
  • Jojo
  • Starlights
  • mumble

Note age groups

Before planning special entertainment for the children present, you should get an overview of the prevailing age structure. Children under the age of one have different needs than 10-year-olds. When choosing the location, you should consider whether there is a relaxation room for an afternoon nap, highchairs for the youngest, or a football pitch for the older ones. There should also be something for every child guest at the buffet.

Under 1 year:

  • Here, as a bride and groom, there is no need to worry too much, since the parents are best familiar with the needs of their child and meet them. Nevertheless, you should inquire whether a relaxation room is needed.

2-10 years:

  • With this age group and a larger number of children, it makes sense to provide an appealing conversation.
  • How much program you plan is up to you, it is important that the effort remains within limits, since you are celebrating a wedding and not a child’s birthday. For some, a painting table is the end, others rent a bouncy castle.
  • A quiet corner with pillows and blankets invites you to rest or sleep, without the kids worrying about missing anything.

Teenager:

  • As everyone knows from their own childhood, a planned conversation from puberty onwards is often undesirable on the part of the children. Many bring their portable Nintendo or a Playstation and are completely satisfied to play undisturbed for hours.
  • If possible, a larger game console could be provided with multiplayer games such as soccer or car racing. A kicker is also always popular.

Children’s table with babysitter: So everyone can celebrate

When planning the wedding dinner, the couple should think of a special children’s menu. In large rooms, it is also possible to set up your own children’s table. Depending on the age of the little guests, a babysitter is not wrong.

Tip: If the babysitter cannot be organized within the family, agencies offer this service. Ideally, the bride and groom should book the service early. An early reservation is particularly worthwhile for weddings in the summer months.
