When to go to the dentist with your child for the first time

Early visits to the dentist are a must if you want to keep your child’s teeth and gums healthy. The child also gets used to the atmosphere in the dentist’s office and learns to build trust in the dentist.

The first visit to the dentist

Ideally, you can schedule your first dentist visit to a pediatric dentist (or a dentist who handles children well) sometime between your first or second birthday. If your child spends a lot of time with a bottle of mouth during the day or at night, you should go to the dentist earlier because the risk of caries is very high. Most health insurance companies pay for a dental screening from the age of 30 months. Up to the age of 6, your child is entitled to three screening tests every 12 months.

If there is a tooth injury

Tooth injuries are almost inevitable in toddlers who are still very shaky on their feet and can fall while running or running. If you notice a broken tooth, wash your child’s face with warm water and a clean cloth. Place a cold compress on the face where the sore is.

Then call the dentist. Tiny chips on the tooth are no cause for concern, but your dentist will look for sharp edges that need to be sanded. Or he looks for cracks that can lead to other problems. Fractures can reach the nerve and the tooth can become inflamed. Swollen gums are a sign that this has happened.

If your child’s tooth is completely knocked out, then you should definitely go to the dentist. The dentist will examine whether fragments are left in the gums. He is unlikely to restore the tooth because it will fail anyway.

tip: Take your child regularly to your own dentist visits and be a good example for your child by not showing fear when visiting your dentist. Then your child will not be afraid of the dentist.
