Who are the nesting nomads

About us – who we are, what we do and why we are called Nesting Nomads

Chris, Victoria and Liam, we are here. Aha, and what is this actually, a new family blog or travel blog? Yes, no and somehow both. Not new, because we have been blogging for a long time. Since 2006, when we traveled around the world for the first time 7 months after graduation. At that time only for our families and friends and for us as a reminder.

Now we have revised our articles a bit and are constantly adding new ones. You can read what we experienced at first for two and now three. How a big journey has become from the one big journey before the start of professional life 2006/2007. With always long stays in different places, rarely only travel through or check off places. For example, we spent some time in Australia and New Zealand, but our specialty is Thailand.

We are still traveling, on the move, as well as looking for the right life (way). But already arrived, because 10 years later we know what we want, but not always how we can reach or hold it.

Above all, we want time, time for ourselves, for our son, time for a second child, our family and friends, sports, learning new things and also time for relaxed doing nothing. Here you get an insight into our previous travel experiences but also in our current everyday life, how we try to live our lives, sometimes better and sometimes worse, but always one step further in the right direction.

In 2011 there was growth in our nest

Many thought our lifestyle would change abruptly with the birth of our first son, Liam. Of course a lot has changed as well and some of them we will certainly discuss in this blog over the next few years. But one thing has stayed the same: our long time off and our desire to live in Thailand, if not permanently, but for much of the time. As well as getting to know new places and especially the people there.

Nomadic family in the digital age

Especially against this background, we wanted to rebuild our blog, because we think that there are not many blogs on the subject of “long-term traveling families”, “nomadic families” or the like – on our way we would like to take you and show you how we master this. And of course we hope to meet like-minded people.

Nesting nomads? How it came to our name!

Even after the birth of our first son, we have no desire for a single permanent residence. We can imagine living on for years or decades as before. But we also do not see ourselves as travelers in the narrower sense of the word, preferring to stay in places we love to stay, be it for 2 months or 7 months, be it one-time or recurring.

Once we have found a place that makes us feel at home, we no longer have the urge to immediately find out if there is anything better. So we build a nest and nest it as long as we like it. That’s how it was on our first trips, and even then we were always stuck in places for a long time instead of racing for them.

The name search is, you can ask parents or marketing experts of all industries, a difficult topic. Our site was formerly quite trivial “Vici and Chris traveling” and was at the address www.viciundchris.de to reach. That was basically not wrong either (are the names of the Hautpdarsteller), but when we decided to address people outside our circle of acquaintances with this blog, we realized very quickly: a new name must come from!

Nomads have existed for millennia, digital nomads for a few years

When one speaks of nomads one thinks according to the age group either to the classical definition. Let’s see how a nomad is quoted on Wikipedia.

“As nomads (alto νομάς nomás,” grazing “,” wandering around “) people are referred to in the narrower sense, who for economic reasons lead a non-sedentary lifestyle. In most cases, the associated with the work migratory movements form consistent cycles, the u. a. through extreme climatic conditions or animal migrations to secure livelihoods throughout the year. “

Well, the thing with the climate is already correct, we have been fleeing the cold German winter for years. But quite the definition on us does not hit the mark. Even with the modern concept of the Digital Nomad we do not really feel addressed:

“A Digital Nomad (also: Internet Nomad) is an entrepreneur or worker who almost exclusively uses digital technology to do his job and who leads a lifestyle that is more akin to being sedentary, location-independent or multilocal. “

We do not really feel sedentary, but we are not really multilocal and the partial indifference and unsuitable prioritization with which many digital nomads choose their place of residence does not particularly appeal to us either.

And so we came up with the idea of nesting nomads – the NESTING NOMADS!
