Visa-on-arrival

The visa on arrival process consists of two parts.

A first part in which you must make an online application, make a payment to the government, and wait for the response, which will take an average of 5 days. For this first part, you will need to have your passport ready to fill out the online form and you must attach the passport page with your biometric data. Please note thatthe passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into the country.

After this process of reviewingby the government authorities, you will receive in your email a document that verifies that you already have the first part of your visa accepted. You must print and take this document with you to your entrance to Vietnam, along with your original passport, which must have at least two blank pages for the visa stamp. This procedure can take you between 30-45 minutes.

If you plan on applying for a visa on arrival, make sure you will arrive in Vietnam via one of the following airports:

  • Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi)
  • Cam Ranh International Airport (Nha Trang)
  • Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City)
  • Da Nang International Airport (Da Nang)
  • Cat Bi International Airport (Hai Phong)
  • Phu Quoc International Airport

On-arrival visas can be requested for one or multiple entries, for a validity of one or three months for your stay in the country.

The price of the document, including the stamping of your passport, may vary depending on the agency with which you process it, and the price you must pay for the visa stamp will not vary depending on the airport of entry.

The cost of stamping your passport will be about 1900 INRfor single entry visas and 3800 INR for multi-entry visas, regardless of whether the validity is of one or three months.

The on-arrival visa is only for air-entry into the country.

Electronic visa or e-Visa

This method launched in early 2017 is currently the easiest and fastest way to apply for a visa to Vietnam. Unlike the previous two, this visa is valid for 30-day stays and allows only one entry.

The e-Visa is valid for any type of trip to the country (tourism, business) and you will only have to meet some requirements to apply for it.

The process is entirely supported online. You will have to fill in an online form with your data, contact, passport, and the necessary information requested.

The information required is not that different compared to the other types of visas, with the advantage of being able to do online from your computer, tablet or even your mobile phone.

The online application is the fastest of the three types. It usually takes an average of 48 hours to receive the approved document by email.

With this document, you will not need to do any additional formalities and once you arrive at the airport you will only need to present the approved visa and your original passport to enter the country.

As for the documentation needed when doing the online procedure, you must have a scanned copy of your passport and a recent good quality photo in colour, as you must attach them to your application. Make sure your passport is displayed correctly, and try not to miss any important detail.

The cost of the entire process is around 4100 INR which includes government fees and management services.

Is Indian rupee accepted in Vietnam?

The local currency in Vietnam is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). You must bring local cash, pay by credit card, or exchange money upon your arrival. At the Vietnamese airport, you will find ATMs where you can change your currency to Vietnamese Dong.

Even if there are cards that with a certain commissionallow you to make payments abroad, we recommend you to bring cash with you for small purchases.

For example, eating on the street in small stands is very typical in the country, and these small businesses rarely accept credit cards.
