An exciting day tour to the ShUM cities (9 hours) Hundreds of years ago, when most Jews were still living in small towns or shtetls scattered across Europe, three cities rose to prominence as hotbeds of Jewish scholarly pursuit. These were the ShUM cities of Speyer, Worms, and Mainz (named collectively for the first letters of their Hebrew names Schpira,
Warmaisa and Magenza).
These 3 cities were the most important of intellectual medieval Jewish life and the teachings and decrees which issued from the ShUM cities are still studied today. In 1055 the Rabbi and Talmud scholar Rashi taught at his famous Yeshiva in Worms. One can still see the ‘Rashi
chair’ today! The 11th century Imperial Cathedral in Speyer is impressive, as is the Mikveh dating from the same period, done by the same stonemasons.
Soon this place will also be elected as Unesco World Heritage.

Discovery of Mainz and its Jewish heritage
New synagogue
Worms – Rashi house, Mikveh, synagogue and Jewish Museum
and visit of the cemetery Holy Sand
Due to the fact that the tour is pretty intense we can only visit two cities. Mainz and Worms or Worms and Speyer or only Worms ( here are the best preserved sites to find). We can also only visit Worms and I will create a customized tour for you.
Locations in Speyer, visit of the Jewish Museum, excavations and mikweh.
