Berlin a city with many corners and edges

Combining a business trip with the pleasant side of Berlin.

The trip to Berlin was for the ITB, the biggest international tourism fair in Europe. We reserved one day for the fair and we were mainly interested in the platforms and the digital world of travel. The digital world is also there on the fast lane.

Patrick Hellmann Castle Hotel

Nevertheless, we still found time to visit some places in Berlin. Against the habit, we have decided for a historical hotel, which is under monument protection. Normally, I prefer large, spacious and modern business hotels in the center. However, I could not resist this dreamy palace hotel and we booked our stay in Berlin at the Patrick Hellmann Schlosshotel. The Palais was built in 1912 by a lawyer and was ready for occupancy two years later. Even Kaiser Wilhelm was a guest there until he died after the 1. disappeared into exile after the Second World War. During the 2. During World War II the palace was occupied by the Russians. After the war it became a feudal Embassy Club. In 1951 Wolfgang Gerhus leased the castle, where it was a popular destination for aristocrats and famous personalities.

The castle hotel had many different owners. The current owner is designer Patrick Hellmann, whose signature characterizes the property. The halls are determined by dark wood and the colors gold and silver. Some of the rooms were still under reconstruction during our visit. Still, you can see that only top-notch materials are used for the renovations. The old style gets a modern touch with new elements.

If you love houses steeped in history and prefer a personal atmosphere, you should definitely book at the Patrick Hellmann Schlosshotel. The warm welcome and nice service invite us to linger. Who knows, maybe you will meet Robert Kennedy, Josephine Baker, Sir Peter Ustinov or Errol Flynn in your dreams. Even Romy Schneider got married twice in this hotel.

BvB Dortmund

Even greater was the joy that BvB Dortmund chose the same hotel. Now it was already the second time that this football club stays in the same hotel as I do. Coincidences exist.

Hotel Adlon Berlin

The Hotel Adlon is just as steeped in history. We treated ourselves to lunch there with a view of the Brandenburg Gate. From the salad to the pasta to the cheese plate everything was excellent. Afterwards we continued with the city tour.

Fruhsammers Berlin

When preparing for the trip, Fruhsammers was on our list because it was easily accessible from our hotel. This restaurant belongs to the adjacent tennis club. The cuisine is excellent. We were only in the bistro and would have liked to visit the restaurant, which was unfortunately not possible due to time constraints. We will definitely catch up on this one day.

Works by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Max Pechstein, Otto Mueller, Emil Nolde, Fritz Bleyl and other works by close artist friends are exhibited at the Museum Brucke in Berlin.

Berlin is and remains a city with many corners and edges. It is exactly this complexity that we love about Berlin.
