The best viewpoints in Santiago de Chile

When I was in Santiago de Chile, I also visited one or the other viewpoint of the Chilean capital, because I like to look at cities and places and landscapes from above and I can't say no to a great view. Since Santiago de Chile is surrounded by many hills, and can now also call the highest building in Latin America its own, the city has some attractive viewpoints to offer. In my opinion, the following travel tips are the best viewpoints in Santiago de Chile.

Cerro San Cristobal

In the Barrio Bellavista is the access to the Cerro San Cristobal by Funicular (funicular railroad). The train takes you to the top of the hill, which is in the Parque Metropolitano, where there are also a few small souvenir stores and cafes. At the top of the hill, 880 meters above sea level, there is a statue of the Virgin Mary majestically towering over the city with her arms outstretched. You can walk up to the 22 meter high statue, but it can also be seen from many points in the city from below.
From Cerro San Cristobal you have a great view of Santiago and the surrounding Andes mountain range.

Cerro Santa LucIa

This hill is a bit smaller than Cerro San Cristobal, but it is also more central. You can walk up. At noon, the " Canonazo de las D oce" (the cannon shot at twelve) is fired, which you can also hear from down in the immediate area of the hill, z.B. if you are at the "Feria Artesanal Santa LucIa" on the opposite side of the street. This Feria Artesanal is a market where you can find handicrafts from Chile and souvenirs. On the hill Santa LucIa Pedro de Valdivia founded the city of Santiago de Chile in 1541.

Costanera Center

The Costanera Center is the highest building in Latin America and therefore also offers the highest viewpoint in Latin America. The Sky Costanera observation deck of the Costanera Center is located 300 meters above sea level and covers the top two floors of the building. The viewpoint offers a 360° panoramic view with a great view of the whole town and the surrounding mountains. Of course, it is especially spectacular if you catch a day with little smog and clear visibility, and thus have a breathtaking view of the Andes.

Small tip: During the week the entrance fees are cheaper than on weekends.

If you are traveling in Santiago de Chile, I definitely recommend to visit at least one of the viewpoints in Santiago, because they offer you a spectacular view over this big city and especially from the two higher viewpoints, Cerro San Cristobal and Costanera Center, you can really grasp the vast dimensions of this large city. The magnificent views of Santiago and the Andes are truly an unforgettable experience, because from above the city is particularly beautiful and impressive.
