Motorhomes on the ferry to Norway

For your vacation in Telemark this year, we recommend that you take our ferry to Langesund, so that your adventure in Telemark starts as soon as you leave the ferry. The ferry departs from Hirtshals at 9 am. Once you've boarded, you'll be able to enjoy the many offerings – from delicious food at restaurants and cafes to tax-free shopping or the children's playground. At 13:30 you go ashore at Langesund and set course for the first overnight stop, which is easily reached during daylight hours.

Shelter

What could be better than falling asleep to the sound of a nearby river – and drinking your first coffee in the morning with a view of the mountain peaks and endless forests?? In Norway you are allowed to do this because it is the "public right of access". Just park your motorhome for free in the middle of nature or pitch your tent wherever you like – both in the forest and in the mountains. (The only exceptions are rest areas and places that are less than 150 m from another house.)

If you want to spend a night or two at a campsite, just call ahead to reserve a spot or drive directly to a campsite you spotted along the way. Norwegian campsites are often in the middle of nature, so you can admire fjords, mountains, lakes and forests through your windows.

Ferries and tolls

Some road sections – often near larger towns, on newer freeways, through underwater tunnels or over larger bridges – are subject to tolls. Sometimes you also find that a paid ferry crossing takes much less time than the detour by road. Many places automatically charge fees and ferry tickets based on license plate identification. They will be added to the final bill of your Norway trip afterwards. According to FDM (Danish Drivers' Association), you should expect to pay about NOK 100 per day for tolls and ferries during your trip.

Many places also offer discounts if you have a Danish BroBizz in your vehicle.

Leisure activities in Telemark

One of the greatest advantages of traveling by motorhome is the freedom to decide where you want to go each day – and to stop spontaneously along the way when you come across a sight, natural scenery or viewpoint that appeals to you.

In the suggested itinerary below, we've put together some of the highlights of the region – but we promise you'll enjoy an exciting trip no matter which itinerary you choose. Remember to fully charge your smartphone in the morning so you can take pictures of the unique landscapes you pass through.

This route has been planned with short driving times, so that you have enough time to explore the area at each stop.
