Ang Thong National Park Thailand – Trip to the island paradise

Ang Thong National Park

Ang Thong National Park consists of a group of 42 small islands and is located in the Gulf of Thailand ca. 35 km west of Koh Samui. The landscape there is simply breathtaking and absolutely worth seeing. If you are on Koh Samui in Thailand, you should definitely plan a day trip to this small island paradise.

You can reach the island group from Koh Phangan as well as from Koh Samui and there are many different operators offering tours to Ang Thong National Park. In this post you will find the highlights and some info about our tour, which was definitely one of our best day trips in Thailand!

Where to book the tour to Ang Thong National Park best?

Depending on budget and imagination there are several possibilities and providers. The tours can be booked easily at any hotel or tourist office. We have already researched in advance and came across Boutique Yachting. The special thing compared to other providers is that not only the destination but already the trip there is a real experience. Instead of the crowded speedboat, we took a big sailboat to Ang Thong National Park. On deck is enough space and there is a sunbed for every guest. Breakfast, lunch and soft drinks are also included in this tour.

Pick up at the hotel

In the morning at 7:30 we were picked up by a van directly at the hotel. Transportation to the harbor and from the harbor back to the hotel is included at Boutique Yachting. It does not matter where on Koh Samui the hotel is located. After approx. 30min drive we arrived at Petcherat Pier in Bangrak. There the crew and our sailboat the "Naga" was already waiting for us. Our guides spoke English, German and Russian and so everyone could perfectly understand the safety instructions and also the history of Ang Thong National Park.

Luxury on board

Around 8:30 am we left the harbor and started in the direction of Ang Thong National Park. During the approx. 2-hour ride we could enjoy the sun and the sea breeze on our sun loungers. In addition, there was first of all a rich breakfast buffet, which was freshly prepared on board.

So the time flew by and already we got to see the first small islands on the horizon.

First we headed for the main island of the national park, where there was a beautiful white sandy beach and a swimming area. We could spend some time on the beach and in the sea until we went on to the next island.

Once there, we made our way up the steep path to a viewpoint. The steps are very steep and in the heat the ascent was also quite exhausting but worth it! At the top we had a wonderful view over Ang Thong National Park and the turquoise-blue Emerald Lake. The cooling down afterwards in the sea came as called!

For refreshment we had a traditional buffet with different Thai food afterwards. Admirable how the cook managed to prepare such a sumptuous and delicious meal in the narrow kitchen on board.

In the afternoon we went by boat further through the national park and could enjoy the view of the many small islands. The guides told us a lot about the formation and the conservation of Ang Thong National Park.

Quite comfortable we made our way back to Koh Samui. Sailing over the sea at sunset was a beautiful ending and a real highlight.

Arrived at the harbor it was getting dark and we could enjoy the last beautiful sight of the Naga against the orange-red sky. A few pictures had to be made of course also still. Luckily the driver who was supposed to take us back to the hotel was very patient and waited for us.
