You will get to know one of the most iconic wine regions in the world, home of the famous Port wine.

I recommend you visit this region by hiring a tour. The tour duration is approximately 8 hours.

The tour we did included a visit to 2 wineries and a vineyard and a boat ride on the Douro River. but there are many options, and you will surely find the best one for you.

Sintra. Almost one day visit.

Unlike the Douro Valley region, Sintra can be toured very easily and on your own.

Departing from Lisbon train station, there is no need to book a seat, but be prepared to possibly travel standing, as Sintra is a very touristy town and the train always fills up very quickly.

The train ride takes approximately 40-50 minutes from Lisbon to Rossio Station at Sintra. From the station, a tourist bus will take you from one place to another, and you can get off wherever is most convenient for you, depending on the castles and tours you want to visit.

These are some of my recommendations:

Castelo dos Mouros

The Castelo dos Mouros is a castle that served as a defense at the time; as it is at the top part of the town, you can see spectacular views of Sintra and in the distance the Pena Palace, but be prepared to climb hundreds of steps.

Pena Palace

The Pena Palace is one of the most iconic castles in the world and in Portugal. Surely, the photo below might look familiar to you. Pena Palace is super colorful on the outside, which makes it unique.

It is very touristy so the lines can be long, plus inside the palace, it is totally forbidden to take pictures, only outside. The inside of the palace itself is not very striking, but still worth a visit 😉.
