10 Disney Dreamlight Valley tips to get you started
Try these Disney Dreamlight Valley tips to clean up your village, complete quests, and fill it with iconic Disney characters. In order to level up and get to the point where you’ve unlocked lots of furniture and customization options, new villages to expand your valley, and Disney Realms to get new characters, you must first work through the basics. The tips we’ve provided below should get you off to a good start in Disney Dreamlight Valley and teach you how to gather resources efficiently and make the most of friendships. 1. Follow quests to find your way around easily
When you first start out with Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll spend a lot of time exploring and performing some of the key resource-gathering activities – clearing nightthorns, foraging, gardening, mining, fishing, and digging – but these consume a lot from your energy. Make sure you reserve a few backpack inventory slots for food you can eat while exploring, so you don’t have to head home every few minutes to refill your Disney Dreamlight Valley energy bar.
Apples are a good ingredient to start with, but once you’ve unlocked cooking, fruit salad, veggie pasta, and grilled fish can easily fill up a good chunk of your energy. Overfilling your energy bar also grants you the Well Fed perk, which increases your movement speed slightly.
The Collection menu is an invaluable compendium of information on just about everything in Disney Dreamlight Valley. There you’ll find your collected memories, any crafting recipes you’ve discovered, which Disney characters currently live in your valley, and which clothing and furniture sets you’ve started collecting.
Clicking on a collection entry will also show important information that will really help you too. You can find out how much certain resources like gems are selling for and where to find them, which really helps when trying to make more money. 4. Check your Disney Dreamlight Valley card often
Another great source of in-game information is the Disney Dreamlight Valley map. It shows you the real-time locations of all Disney villagers, making it easy to find them when you need to give them a gift or have a daily conversation. Characters also have a small quest marker on their icon to let you know they have new quests available or an active quest you are already completing. You can also see when the crop is ready to harvest by looking at the apple icon.

5. Craft chests for your house to increase storage space
When you first launch Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’re running out of disk space. You have a chest in your house and 21 backpack inventory slots, but upgrading to more storage slots is very costly for a beginner. For temporary storage, you can craft a chest for 25 Softwood and 25 Stone, which provides 16 additional storage slots.
Use a chest or two to store things like food ingredients and crafting resources that you don’t need to have on you all the time. When you’re crafting or cooking around your house, you’ll automatically pull these items from chests, saving you the hassle of lugging around chunks of coal in your backpack when you need to cook or piles of rocks to craft.
6. Complete Dreamlight challenges and quests to unlock new realms and villages
Make sure to check your Disney Dreamlight Valley Dreamlight Challenges often to see what goals you’re about to complete. You can find these under the Dreamlight menu, and each will reward you with increasing amounts of Dreamlight upon completion. The Dreamlight tasks are also great for collecting Dreamlight quickly, as they award a decent amount of Dreamlight for completing relatively quick and easy tasks.
Dreamlight is also the currency used to unlock new village biomes in Dreamlight Valley and new realms in Dream Castle. Unlocking these areas will also attract more Disney characters to settle in your valley, so make sure you earn and spend as much Dreamlight as possible!
7. Meet up with your villagers as often as you can
In Disney Dreamlight Valley you can ask any of your Disney villagers to hang out with you. This allows you to earn XP (represented by pink stars) not only for your personal level, but also for your friendship level with the character you’re hanging out with. Increasing friendship levels for characters advances a reward path that gives you new items at each level – for example, you can get a Fantasia Fountain for getting Mickey Mouse to friendship level 10. You’ll also be able to obtain new character-specific quests that award even more XP to further strengthen friendships. Each of the core activities earns you XP, so embark on a mining, fishing, and digging expedition to strengthen your friendships.
8. Give your villagers a variety of roles for efficient resource management
In terms of leveling up friendships, when you reach friendship level 2, you can assign each character a role that allows them to help you with an activity – either digging, gardening, fishing, mining, and foraging. Whenever you hang out with a character with an assigned role, it increases your chances of getting bonus resources from a specific activity.
For example, if you assign Moiana the fishing reel, maybe she can get you some extra fish every time you catch a fish while you’re hanging out with her. However, you can only assign one role to a character and it cannot be changed. So assign each of your first five villagers a role so you can hang out with one of them and gather resources efficiently while completing an activity. The impact of these roles also increases with each friendship level you reach. So the more you hang out, the better your villagers get!
As you play through the story of Dreamlight Valley, you’ll encounter tons of Disney characters and unlock new village biomes and realms. Many of these characters can provide you with important tool upgrades, allowing you to mine new materials that you previously could not. t.
