Williamsburg, VA is a must-visit for any American History buff. For us, visiting both Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg was high on our list of things to see on our #Austin2Boston road trip. It was the first of many stops along the East Coast that really gave us a great amount of historical reference, facts, and fun.
While visiting the area, we stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Wiliamsburg which was a perfect fit for our family of four.
Location
The Doubletree by Hilton Williamsburg is located on Kingsmill Road, just minutes form the gates of Busch Gardens. When staying in the area, it was important to me to have a hotel that was conveniently located in the historic “triangle” – close to the Yorktown Victory Center, Jamestown Settlement, and Colonial Williamsburg. The hotel is set back from any major roads and we found it to be nice and quiet during our summer visit (July 2015). It’s a great location for anyone visiting the area.
A Room Tour
Our family of four spread out in 2 adjoining rooms with 2 queen beds in each room. The rooms were very spacious with a big armoire, desk, and Hilton’s Sweet Dreams beds. These beds include a pillow top mattress, 4 feather pillows, and crisp, clean linens. I love a good hotel bed that you can sink into and sleep a great night’s sleep – especially after being at an amusement park or touring all day. These beds were nice – totally over my kid’s heads, but this mom loved them.
The rooms also have plenty of seating, a big 40-inch LCD TV, Kuerig coffee maker and a large bathroom.
What we Liked About Doubletree Williamsburg
- The rooms were large and spacious
- We travel with a cooler, so we enjoyed having a Mini fridge in our room
- The hotel parking lot is large and lit well at night – no cost to park
- There are 2 restaurants on site: Pitchers – a sports bar, and the Harvest Grille Dining Room
- We enjoyed breakfast at the Williamsburg Cafe, which had lots of grab & go options that were inexpensive (cold cereal, yogurts, fruit, muffins, coffee, & juice).
- Great indoor & outdoor pool to enjoy year round. The outdoor pool had a nice courtyard with plenty of seating and towels provided.
- Free WiFi throughout the hotel.
- My boys found a game room to play old school video games in.
- Check in with warm cookies! Who can resist a warm chocolate chip cookie after a day of traveling?? It’s one of our favorite things about staying at a Doubletree!
What You Need to Know About Doubletree Williamsburg
- Laundry facilities are available on 2 floors. They are coin operated but nice and big. However, while we were there, there were 4 washing machines operating but only one dryer. The hotel was very nice to take my wet load and dry it for me in their dryers downstairs. We greatly appreciated that.
- The shuttle to Busch Gardens costs $5 a person round trip. It cost $15 to park but we had to deal with long lines to park and walking to the front gates. I think for $20 (4 of us), riding the shuttle and not dealing with that would have been worth it.
- There are no sit-down restaurants near the hotel – McDonald’s & Wendy’s are across the street. And the nearest grocery store is about 10 minutes away.
We felt the Doubletree Williamsburg was a great location for our stay in Williamsburg. The accommodations suited a family of 4 perfectly – comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a great family atmosphere made it a lovely stay.
