The Corona crisis persists and continues to prevent us from traveling. Still, we don't want to let the anticipation of our next trip get the better of us – and for that very reason, we present the most exciting new Marriott openings of the year.
Reached us the other day – on a gray January day. The press release about the Marriott new openings in 2021. Although the pandemic is far from over and travel restrictions are still the order of the day, the American hotel chain is going on the offensive – and presenting a series of luxurious hotels that will open their doors for the first time in 2021.
#1: St Regis, Cairo
Where? Cairo, Egypt
Why go? Right in the heart of the vibrant metropolis of Cairo, at the northern end of the Corniche and directly on the banks of the Nile, the new St. Regis Cairo. The hotel is lavishly appointed with its 286 rooms and suites and an additional 90 luxurious apartments. Egyptian glamour and grandeur combine with modern, contemporary design here.
#2: St. Regis Almasa, Cairo
Where? Almasa Cairo, Egypt
Why there? A second St. Regis for Egypt. Just outside of Cairo, in the new administrative capital of Egypt – in Almasa – lies the st. Regis. It's an elegant haven for those who find the metropolis of Cairo too bustling and chaotic. Impress the hotel's grand ballroom, the largest contiguous ballroom in the city. Culinarily, guests at the st. Regis Almasa also indulges – in the fine restaurant The Crystals.

#3: Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest
Where? Budapest, Hungary
Why go there? One of the finest Marriott openings is already taking place in Budapest in the first quarter of the year. This is where the fine Matil Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel opens its doors. The building has a long tradition. Built during the Belle epoque in 1902 under the patronage of Maria Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Matild Palace has long served as the social hub of the city. The location is outstanding. Of course also the interior. De r iconic palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, combines a luxurious atmosphere with authentic local experiences.
#4: Hotel Riomar, Ibiza
Why go? Ibiza is and remains one of the jet set hotspots in Europe. And the celebrity island is now richer by a hotel pearl. The 58-room boutique hotel Riomar, Ibiza combines relaxed atmosphere and edgy elegance with pure escapism. Kicking off, right in the first quarter, is the Residence Inn Al Jaddaf. It's the brand's first property in the United Arab Emirates. Perfect for those looking to work from the road this year. Residence Inn is a global leader in extended stay, offering a "home away from home" feel with separate living, working and sleeping areas. A few more facts? Here they come: 134 rooms, excellent location to Dubai's main business and leisure centers and an unobstructed view of the city skyline from the rooftop terrace.

#6: W Hotel, Rome
Why go? Not far from the famous Spanish Steps and the elegant luxury boutiques of Via Condotti is the W Rome. Opening in the second quarter of 2021, this elegant property marks the debut of W Hotels in Italy. Elegant 159 rooms and suites are offered by the W Hotel Rome. A highlight is the rooftop bar – one of the few in the city. From here you can see over Rome. Foodies can look forward to an unparalleled culinary offering, courtesy of Michelin-starred chef Ciccio Sultano. Because a city like Rome can never have enough good restaurants.

#7: W Hotel, Algarve
Where? Algarve, Portugal
Why go? Europe is about to get another new W Hotel in the second quarter of 2021. And in the Algarve. More precisely: in Albufeira. Marriott's new opening adds a whole new dimension to the term "beach vacation". Because the hotel offers direct access to three beaches at once. Each of the 134 rooms offers stunning ocean views. The 23 lavishly appointed suites include maisonette suites with private pools and an Extreme WOW Suite with Jacuzzi. The Sky Deck is also insanely beautiful. From here you can soon enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Algarve coastline.

#8: The Marmorosch Bucharest, Autograph Collection Hotel
Where? Bucharest, Romania
Why go? Located in a former Belle epoque-style bank is the five-star property with the catchy yet difficult-to-pronounce name The Marmorosch. It belongs to the fine Autograph Collection. The architecture alone is impressive. Known during its heyday as the "Marbleosh Bank Palace," the building's design taps into the energy and rich heritage of the era with its sheer grandeur, timeless elegance, Art Deco interiors and artwork. The exquisite food and beverage offerings are French-inspired, in a nod to Bucharest's then nickname "Paris of the East".

#9: The Westin, London
Where? London, England
Why go? Admitted. London has numerous luxury hotels. And yet, The Westin London City sets a new standard for well-being and hospitality right in the heart of the English capital. 222 rooms at the property, which is located directly on the Thames and offers a wonderful view of the river. The hotel's thoughtful design, led by British architectural firm Dexter Moren Associates, was bright and open. Incidentally, The Westin London is the first of the Westin Hotels & Resorts brand in the U.K.

#10: Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah, Dubai
Why there? As we announced earlier, Marriott will open a total of three hotels in Dubai this year. Number two on the list is the Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah. It is located on the beachfront of the iconic Palm Jumeirah. The city center and major shopping malls and business districts are also just minutes from the hotel. The Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah, Dubai is of considerable size. With over 608 guest rooms, eight restaurants and lounges, as well as a world-class spa with fitness facilities, a children's club and a private sandy beach with breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf, guests will be spoiled for choice.

11: St. Regis Dubai, The Palm

Why go? And we stay in Dubai. For the luxurious St. Regis Dubai, The Palm is also one of the most exciting Marriott openings of the year. It offers 290 rooms and suites, an impressive infinity pool on 50. Floor, exquisite restaurants and a rooftop terrace with impressive views. Why go? If you've ever stayed at a JW Marriott, you know the unparalleled luxury the hotel brand offers. At this point, that will also have to suffice for now to build anticipation for the JW Marriott Cairo Mena House. Because the property won't welcome guests until the fourth quarter of the year. For this reason, there are no official images available yet. That makes it one of the most exciting Marriott openings in 2021.
But some things are already known. Here's how the JW Marriott Cairo Mena House is located within walking distance of the pyramids at Giza, the Sphinx and the Egyptian Grand Museum. The iconic building will feature 117 luxurious rooms, including 16 suites, unparalleled views of the magnificent pyramids, lush gardens with water fountains and palm trees, a pool, spa and golf course.
