8 Airport hacks – how to save time

With its endless lines of travelers lugging gigantic suitcases, making your way through the airport can feel like the most tedious obstacle course in the world. But air travel doesn’t have to be exhausting. Here are 8 time-saving airport hacks that will make your next trip a breeze.

1. Weigh your luggage ahead of time

No one wants to get to the airport and find that their luggage is too heavy. You’ll either have to pay a hefty baggage fee, or rummage through your suitcase on the airport floor and throw things away.

The best way to make sure you’re within your limit is to check your baggage allowance before you leave and weigh your suitcase at home. Digital luggage scales are perfect for weighing your suitcase with ease. Plus, you can pack it in your suitcase to weigh it again before your return trip. On our road trip through North America, there were a few things we needed to get rid of before our flight departed. Thanks to the scale, however, we knew this before we took off.

2. Get a customized suitcase

If you’re tired of trying to identify your suitcase in the sea of black suitcases spit out on the baggage carousel, invest in a unique suitcase. There are so many colorful and unique designs on the market that are guaranteed to stand out.

If you’re worried about losing your suitcase, here are two more tips: Always take a picture of your suitcase before you drop it off. If you have a photo, you can share it with the airport team so they know what to look for. If you’re going on a trip where you’re changing flights, invest in a GPS tracker so you know where your suitcase is.

3. Label your bags

This point seems obvious, but is often overlooked. Make sure you put a luggage tag on both your carry-on and your suitcase. If you rush through the airport and lose your bag, there’s a good chance you’ll get your bag back in no time.

4. Check in online

Once you get in the habit of checking in online, you’ll never look back! Most airlines give you the option to check in 24 hours before your flight. Saves soooo much time and effort! You can click through check-in from the comfort of your own home, and it takes one step away from the stressful airport process!

5. Write down your parking spot

We have all been there. It’s early in the morning and we just got off a long flight. It’s cold and probably raining too. And you can’t remember where you left the car a week ago.

So before you run to the airport full of anticipation for your vacation, take a minute to note the parking lot, the floor, and the area where you parked. By the way, if you’re looking for cheap parking near your airport of choice, check out Airport Parking Germany. The website shows you the cheapest parking places near the airport. We use this portal for all our flights. Most recently, we booked our airport parking in Dusseldorf via the portal.

6. Choose the left queue

We learned this trick years ago in a Disney Parks travel guide and it has helped us in many situations since then!

When it comes to queuing, many people have an unconscious bias and will unconsciously head for the right queue. So if you want to get through security the fastest, choose the inevitably shorter queue on the left side. It works at Disney and at airports, we can assure you of that.

7. Bring an empty water bottle

We all know that taking liquids through security is no longer an option. However, it is possible to take an empty water bottle with you, which you can fill up once you are in the departure area. A foldable water bottle is perfect for this purpose.

8. Own snacks save the vacation budget

Snacks at the airport are expensive. But did you know you can bring your own snacks for your flight? Save money by getting snacks from the supermarket before you travel.

Some foods that are considered liquids or partial liquids, such as.B. Jam, jelly and sauces, are not allowed to pass through security. Always check your departure airport’s policy before you travel to avoid packing prohibited items.
