Dalat: a cable car worthwhile and the Valley of Love

Cable_Car_Dalat_travel2eat (5)

As far as cable cars are concerned, we are usually rather too stingy to use them. In Dalat, however, it is worth the fun, because it is not expensive (70.000 dong per person for the round trip, just under 3 euros), the route is long and you have a wonderful view.

1. Stop: active monastery

We came out after the first drive at the Truc Lam Pagoda (an active monastery). The grounds are beautiful – with lots of flowers, a temple, forest and a lake that we walked to. read more

Gut Saunstorf in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Quiet time-out in a modern monastery

"Diiiiing", make the Tingsha bells and what is supposed to be a very calming sound, triggers a little panic in me. Because I know that what follows this "diiiing" will not be easy for me: 30 minutes of rest.

30 minutes of silence: Silence with guidance

And not the kind of calm, as in: "i flop down on my couch and nod off to the sprinkling of a Netflix series every now and then." No, this rest is another. A meditation in which not only I have to shut up, but also no impulses come from the outside, until one is released from it after half an hour. In which I do not lie somewhere, but sit, as upright as my back allows, on a meditation cushion in a room flooded with light. Not alone, by the way, but with other silent people, at a distance – because the pandemic is supposedly taking a break right now, but is still in our heads, as it will be again with full force a few months later. The quiet half hour for inner reflection will be led by Christel, who lives and works here, in the Saunstorf monastery in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. read more

After the Finns, the Americans, Brazilians and Germans are the world leaders in coffee consumption. Compared to other commodities, the coffee trade ranks second in the world, right after oil. Capsules, powders or pads are on the market. Some coffees are as expensive per kilogram as a German monthly salary. But it takes the right preparation to make it your favorite drink and an indispensable "takeoff pilot" at the breakfast table. read more

Hilton Frankfurt Airport: Hospitality for business people

When you think of Hilton hotels worldwide, you might think of reliable quality, professional service and business travelers. However, the term "warm hospitality" is not the first thing that comes to mind; after all, one usually associates it with an owner-managed hotel in Tyrol or on the island of Rugen – but not with a business hotel at an international airport: But it is precisely this warm hospitality that our author Friederike Hintze finds when she visits the Hilton Frankfurt Airport. An enthusiastic hotel review. read more

Velvet paws worldwide – cat encounters on journeys

Often I am on the way as an animal sitter, but even if I do not look after a cat, I seem to attract the cats almost magically – or is it the other way round?? At some point I started taking pictures of the cats I meet on my travels, hikes and walks. Just like with humans, some are more trusting and some are more aloof. Some act nice at first and then are quite beastly, others are shy at first and need a bit to thaw out. Some of them are street cats, others are outdoor cats, who return to their families in the evening and my favorite cat, who I meet several times a week, lives in a boat in Berlin Friedrichshain and gets her strokes from the passing pedestrians. read more
