SOWash 508G0005 – Review

With the 508G0005, SOWash goes a completely different way than the manufacturers of conventional oral showers. Without electricity and without a tank, it is connected directly to the faucet, but has some weaknesses in the test.

Oral shower at the tap

The Italian company SOWash has set itself the task of developing innovative and original personal care products. The first – and so far only – in the portfolio is an oral irrigator with the cryptic name “508G0005”. At first glance, the innovation is also recognizable to the layman: neither a water tank nor an electric motor was installed in the oral irrigator. The handpiece is more reminiscent of an empty plastic tube and is connected to a hose, which in turn is connected to the faucet. So should be used here anyway existing water pressure to the teeth cleaning uncomplicated and above all environmentally friendly to enable. Logically, such a construction is also much cheaper than the classic electric oral showers and such The SOWash 508G0005 is already available for around 20 euros. We want to test in the test, whether you get a full-quality oral irrigator, or if it just stops but the quality on the track.

Equipment

In addition to the actual oral irrigator – here a plastic handle on which a spiral hose hangs – are a slip-on nozzle, two metal filters and a user manual included. If additional slip-on nozzles are needed, these are available as accessories for around 3 euros. The two metal filters are needed for the installation of the SOWash 508G0005. One has an external thread, one has an internal thread and depending on the connection of your faucet in the bathroom, the appropriate filter is attached. This is just the already existing standard filters removed and through the SOWash filter replaced. However, if you have a non-threaded tap or one that deviates from the norm, a visit to the nearest hardware store will be unavoidable. Then the installation can only be done with various adapters.

After the hurdle is removed, the new filter performs the same service wIt also does a normal jet regulator or pervator. It filters and aerates the water, making the jet softer and the water warmer. Unwanted spills are avoided and water consumption is reduced. In addition, the SOWash filter now also serves as a connection with a quick release for the oral irrigator. With a quarter turn, the hose can be firmly connected to the faucet and the SOWash 508G0005 is ready for use. Water pressure and temperature are then controlled directly via the tap.

Test result – many rough edges

The fact that the SOWash 508G0005 is the cheapest oral irrigator by far, with a price of more than 20 euros, is unfortunately also partly noticeable in the processing. While the two metal filters make a good and valuable impression, the handset, the hose and especially the connection between hose and filter are unfortunately out rather cheap-looking plastic made. While we could see no damage to our short test, other reviews repeatedly reported broken adapters. Especially when the SOWash is frequently unscrewed and unscrewed, the material seems to suffer here.

Especially the removal of the hose from the faucet, which if you want to use the washbasin also regularly, requires quite a bit of force. A material-gentle removal is therefore hardly possible. In the offer of the manufacturer, however, there is also a quick adapter, which should allow the connection completely without screwed-on filter on all taps. The would make the SOWash 508G0005 also a travel companion, but without this adapter he is definitely not on the way.

The direct controllability of the water pressure and the temperature convinced us in the test immediately. If the tap is turned up too much, take care a pressure relief valve at the end of the handle By the way, that the excess water can drain. Unfortunately also in the sleeve or elsewhere, where you can not use it. Unfortunately, if the hot water in the house is provided by a water heater, the 508G0005 will only allow operation with cold water due to low flow. A big advantage of the construction is that you have the Teeth can be cleaned as long as you like and do not rely on one, in case of doubt too small water tank. Unfortunately, the water pressure at the outlet of the nozzle can not quite keep up with other electric models. Also, the technology allows no pulsing massage jet or other features you are used to from modern oral showers.

Test conclusion – for most no real alternative

In theory, the SOWash 508G0005 is a great idea, but in practice it can not fully convince us. Electric mouthwashes are not much more expensive and simply deliver significantly more power and features.
