Book launch: our little ladies and gentlemen, living room in mainz

The 80s are back. We have all now taken note of the fact that fashion, music etc. experience a revival every now and then. Sometimes you like it better and sometimes you can just shake your head. After things came back in the past that were “in” when our parents were young, we have now arrived in decades that I can also remember. And while I find a lot of things superfluous, there is one thing that really gets me crazy: my old children’s books! And I met a lot of them, they don’t even know that everything has happened before.

Our little ladies and gentlemen

or as it is called today

Mr. Men and Little Miss

If there was something I would have to save from my burning apartment, it would definitely be these little books next to all my photos! I loved her and still love her today! And because I love her so much, I really wanted to keep her for my own children! Who would have thought that they would actually become "in" again.

For everyone who doesn’t know them. With "our little ladies and gentlemen ”is about the story of a fantasy figure. That alone characters I think it’s adorable. These are each assigned a character trait, such as "Our Mr. Tollpatsch", "Our Mr. Curious", "Our Susi Sonnenschein", "Our Hille Helpful" and so on. Because of their extremely distinctive characteristics, the little men and women always head for a tricky situation, which is somehow solved with the help of other friends.

As a child, these booklets were great for reading aloud in the evening. They were also so cheap that I bought some of them with my own pocket money. Today I regret that I don’t have the entire series in my closet. But well, as a child you have other dimensions. And because I wanted to be a writer so much back then, I even copied the books as little Nina. Yes, it sounds a bit crazy. But that’s probably true passion. It made me feel like I had written my own book.

Today I hardly find the books in German, but rather in English. And when you see something in German, it says "Mr. Happy ”, which I find very scary. And even though the books seem to have taken a back seat (at least in Germany – but maybe that will come too), the figures are otherwise available in all forms and variations. Since my passion is so great, I now also have t-shirts, key rings, mugs, pictures, pajamas. Usually I don’t really like these kitsch things and I have them not a big one A passion for collecting, but everyone has their weak point.

And because I’m so incredibly in love with these characters, we couldn’t avoid decorating the children’s room with them. And so it turned out that we quickly cut a little lady for our Miss Mini. I’m just so in love …

If you run into the booklet somewhere, take a look. Maybe it’s something for your kids too. Unfortunately, the names have become somewhat English-heavy, but unless the stories have changed a lot, they are simply adorable! I love it!

With these little darlings, I finally take the opportunity to take part in Jolijou’s wonderful "Short Stories" monthly campaign and something of my own, this time on the subject of passion.

Aaawww, but that’s a nice passion! I love them too, but it took me years to understand that they actually exist in Germany. In the 70s there were always very small folding stories in the Danish cereal boxes, I collected them like stupid, although of course I didn’t understand a word. But I was drawn to the drawings alone.
Today I only have two new ones. A wonderful collection, I wouldn’t give it up either. :)

Hi there! I was just looking at the photo of her collection with enthusiasm. I am currently trying to find good pictures of the "Paladin" copies to illustrate all covers from different countries, but on the Internet there are mostly only heavily used and badly photographed pictures. Since I can not afford the "Paladin" series, because a booklet in good condition can easily go for 20-30 euros, some for much more, on Ebay, I would like to ask if they had good single photos or scans of their books. I would be happy to accommodate you for the effort. I also find the new, German-English naming failed. I’m also interested in how the translations have changed. In some cases, the figures are also colored differently (improved). I have all new issues from Rieder Verlag and gradually all current English issues. I hope you can help me. Kind regards, Thorben
