Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is with families, Children and A popular travel destination for young people. And that’s a good thing, because children and young people are our guests of tomorrow. Reaching them means investing in the future of our tourism industry. More than 30 percent of vacationers in our country are children, on the island of Rügen it is even 45 percent. At 13 nights, families stay in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania on average longer than other holidaymakers with around ten nights. This is reason enough that the tourism industry is increasingly adapting to the needs of children. This also includes providing an appropriate public infrastructure.
Much has already been achieved here because Mecklenburg-West Pomerania is currently the third most family-friendly travel destination after Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria. In order not only to maintain this market position, but also to expand it, additional measures by the state are necessary in this area.

For this reason Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is introducing a seal of approval for family vacations this year. The new quality brand "Familienland MV" is supported by the State Tourism Association together with the Ministry of Economy. The quality offensive sets standards for quality and service in tourist facilities in the country. Families receive basic guidance for their vacation. For families it is important, for example, whether children have to pay a tourist tax. In gastronomy, not only the obligatory children’s chair is part of the offer, but whether there are really child portions and whether it is healthy food.

Vacation spots, hotels and guest houses, campsites, restaurants and leisure attractions are assessed for their family friendliness according to a specified catalog of criteria. In mid-2008 the best Institutions, municipalities as well as hotels and guest houses have been awarded the seal of quality. The child-friendliness of the offer is assessed in each participant category. The initiative will highlight and publicly value ideas and investments in vacation offers for families with children.
