In this article we briefly introduce the different types of dog harness.
The harness is a widespread type of dog harness, which is available in different versions. In this type of dog harness, a web runs from the chest through the dog’s front legs. This ensures that the harnesses fit snugly against the dog’s body and hardly slip.
Very often you can see dogs wearing a Norwegian harness, this harness consists of a chest strap that lies in front of the dog’s chest and a torso strap that runs behind the front legs around the chest. It is very easy to put on and take off, since you only need to put on the dog’s chest belt correctly and then only attach the waist belt to the dog’s torso.
The structure of a saddle harness is hardly distinguishable from a Norwegian harness, but as the name suggests, it has a back plate similar to a saddle. The advantage here is that it is very easy to put on and take off. There is also a handle on the saddle with which the dog can be held, should it be necessary.
Dogs who wear step-in harnesses are less common. The reason for this is that this harness is only suitable for daily use with a few dog types. Thanks to its construction, it does not have to be pulled over the dog’s head when it is put on.
Other dog harness types
Here we briefly introduce you to other dog harness types, especially for Sport and Training missions were designed.
The safety harness has been developed for dogs that fast panic and are therefore unpredictable and can put yourself and others at risk. It usually consists of a chest belt, a torso belt and an additional waist belt. This structure makes it almost impossible for the dog to get out of the harness. Otherwise it is comparable to the driving harness.
These harnesses, which are anatomically and ergonomically well adapted to the dog’s body, offer the working dog optimum wearing comfort. With this harness, the train is distributed even more on the breastbone so that the dog no Gets pressure on the windpipe. Because the dog must not be prevented from breathing when smelling.
This group also includes the pulling harness, this harness was developed to allow dogs to pull heavy loads such as sledges or scooters. The pulling harness was constructed in such a way that the leash leads away from the dog at the level of the dog’s back so that it can develop as much force as possible when pulling and thereby distribute the acting forces as far as possible over the entire dog’s body.
There are also special dog harnesses for dog trekking. So-called dog backpacks are particularly interesting for this activity. There are also additional trekking belts to which the dog can be attached with a pull line.
